One thing I'm unsure of is the skill system. Maybe one of you can help me out.

For example, is there a reason why you'd want to leave some on and some off?

Let's say if f whatever move you're doing can affect two skills at once, the points will be distributed between the individual skills. If you only want to learn one of those skills more quickly, simply enable just that one instead of both it can affect.

It would make sense to me if it worked this way, but I'm not really sure at this stage. I've spent more time writing up simple crap about it compared to time spent actually playing it lol.

Though I am fluent with hiragana, katakana and some syntax, I actually know almost none of the kanji I translate beforehand. I use the ime pad and the online dictionary to look them up.

So basically, menus and stats are possible for me, but translating blocks of text full of kanji will be time consuming. I intend to at least do the beginning quest given to you by seneekuman(that eyepatch guy), but the visual cues given are quite sufficient imo.

I'll need someone to post screenies before I can do anything though, I've done the quest already. Maybe next time I'll try making a quest list, though I am not sure how many quests are ready in the beta.

PS: Registration accepts all lowercase usernames only. That caused me a headache for a while.

Yeah, that lowercase thing was getting me for a while too. Finally I just kept trying different names and figured it out. What a pain.

"Seneekuman" (what a name) certainly gives you some useful ideas, but considering, like you mention, he shows you a bunch of numbered menu items and pictures of the moves, I think a lot of it winds up being fine.

The only one I couldn't figure out is the final one, where he tells you to use  that move that looks like 3 lines of fire going around in a circle. You apparently need it to defeath those onion-headed chicken demons (who I still cannot remember the name of).

I've never use the IME pad. I do have the language bar installed... is that part of that?

I have cobbled together a measly walkthrough here.

Use anything you like from the thread, just do not rape the images.chainsaw

Of course. I'd particularly be interested in using some of the translations you provide, as I don't understand Japanese whatsoever. I'll see what I can do and of course I'll be sure you credit you within the section.

Thanks for offering that up. hearton

I should at least have the installation guide up today. Obviously you can figure out most of what to do yourself since it's the same process as for anything similar. I mostly just messed around and still figured out how to sign up, install and run the game... but I think this is still good to explain for people to speed up the process.

I'll do a translation of the specs too, since apparently that's a point of interest.

(Edit: I put up the first part of the guide I've been working on for the past few days. This portion just details signing up for an account, installation and set up. http://www.digitaldevildb.com/games/shin_megami_tensei_online_imagine/guide_part1.php If you have anything to add or expand upon, let me know... I'm kind of trying to keep it on the more basic end, when possible, as it'll essentially be useless after the beta anyway).

Since there isn't much traffic here, maybe I should also post something at Megaten Haven as well, to get more ideas.

Yeah, that's a good idea. I'd also honestly try for GameFAQs/Gamespot as well.

http://www.digitaldevildb.com/links.php - More button sized link-backs. That's about all I can find so far.

Yeah, that's all I ever made. I think you could use those to link to the forums if you desire to, but it's up to you. Thanks for the interest, though :)

Actually... Maybe I'm missing it in your list, but a possible inclusion would by YHWH himself. Obviously that's not much of a Nocturne issue, but since you're including older games it would work.

At the same time, I'm not sure if you've already considered that as some sort of boss element that you've not listed there.
322  MEGAMI TENSEI™ Uncensored / Megaten Hell / Re: SMT "Combat System"...Any info? on: February 22, 2007, 11:41:58 AM
I'm more than willing to host it. Bandwidth isn't much of a concern to be quite honest, as long as 1,500 don't suddenly want to play it at once lol. Just let me know what's involved whenever that time comes.

Demon wise I think you have most of the ones people would expect to see. Maybe toss a Kodama in there.
323  Be Your True Mind / The Turnstile / Re: I got ....! on: February 21, 2007, 08:26:57 PM
Have fun with Maken X. I always thought it was pretty fun. Sure, it's not GREAT, but there wasn't much comparable to it on the Dreamcast.

Picked up Izuna today.

Nice. I didn't think to order it online. Gamestop probably had one or two copies in, but I refuse to go to their actual brick and mortar stores. It's always obnoxious.

So I just bought Crackdown for Xbox 360, which has been mucho fun.

There's nothing more depressing than being killed by a Kodama.
325  MEGAMI TENSEI™ Uncensored / Megaten Hell / Re: SMT "Combat System"...Any info? on: February 21, 2007, 12:31:33 PM
Yeah, to be completely honest, I don't think anyone has taken the time to actually do that. You might want to check some of the larger Persona 2 FAQs if you haven't, but I'm pretty sure there's nothing like that in there either.

Sounds like you might be stuck just experiementing... but this is a really cool idea, so definitely let us know of your progress either way. I'd be willing to help you test out stuff to get other people's viewpoints if necessary.
326  MEGAMI TENSEI™ Uncensored / Megaten Hell / Re: SMT "Combat System"...Any info? on: February 21, 2007, 10:02:12 AM
So basically you're kind of looking for percentage information? Like if someone has this much magic defense, it blocks this much of the magic's attack power?

I don't know that anyone (at least in English) has actually bothered to do that. I would imagine that you could kind of adapt it from another title... when it really gets down to it, it's very similar to other RPGs in terms of basic stats. The main thing I think you should really pay attention to are super specific weaknesses, which have obviously become very important in SMT related titles... moreso than other RPGs I've played.

Have you played Star Ocean 2?

(Anyone ever play the first SO?)

I can never get the original SO patched properly. There's an English patch as well as a graphics compression patch... I can never get them going at the same time. If the graphics are fine, the game's in Japanese.

I did own SO2 for a while. Decent game, horribly translated. I sold it not too long ago on eBay for a decent amount.
328  MEGAMI TENSEI™ Uncensored / IMAGINE Online / Re: SMT: Imagine on: February 21, 2007, 09:58:26 AM
Yeah, I cannot imagine it really requires that much processing power. In a lot of ways, it's less impressive that World of Warcraft... and that seems to scale to anything.

I'm thinking that I'll make a visual guide for this game on the weekend and put it on the main site. Nothing to the level of a real FAQ, but enough to show people how to sign up, how to create a character and actually login with it and then the basics of combat and recruiting.

I think it would be helpful to have it all in one place and have the accompanying images.

Tsunehito, that error means you don't have the latest version of direct x, (when I had that problem, I updated direct x and the error was gone.) you can go to microsoft here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/Browse.aspx?displaylang=en&categoryid=2 and download the newest direct x file, (it's an updater,) and you shouldn't get that error anymore, (if you do, try restarting your computer.)
There's been some talk about game issues and stuff going on in the gamefaqs boards too if you guys need some more info: http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/gentopic.php?board=921999

Cool, thanks. If nothing else, I found an answer to my demon recruiting issue. I'm still not sure how you actually harm a handful of the demons though.

As for my specs, I have a Pentium 4, 1.8 ghz, 512 MBs of RAM. My graphics card is a GeForce 6200.
