271  Be Your True Mind / Find Your Voice / Digital Devil Database Is Back on: April 24, 2007, 10:43:44 PM
Note: This is a sticky post and will remain at the top for a short period of time. Newer posts will display below this one.

So, that redesign took a lot longer than planned. The sad thing is that it is not finished yet. There's still content to move (particularly in some of the lesser visited Games sections) and new sections to fill in (Downloads?).  Most of the old posts are still not moved over and categories on the side are claiming they have entries they do not. This will be fixed over the next few days. Beyond that, I've taken the quick route with some of the banners. In the near future, expect there to be artwork changes as well as textual changes.

On the plus side, every thing else has gone according to plan.  The site now runs on WordPress instead of Movable Type. The main reason for this is for vB integration. You'll notice that every entry now has a "comments" link at the end of it. Instead of having a separate comment form specific to WordPress, however, the site is set up so that you may comment with your forum account. Any post made on the front page that is deemed worth having comments for will show up in the new  "News Posts" section of the forum instantly. Clicking the link on the main site to comment will bring you to a new reply window in the forums.

Obviously you will need a forum account to use this, but it's quick to sign up for and saves you the trouble of remembering yet another set of account information.

This is probably the biggest change, but a lot of other smaller things have happened that are of benefit. The site is now easier to update and easier to expand. I don't foresee myself running into quite as many walls as I did with the last version. I'm sure there will always be people who preferred how it looked, but you'll get used to it. Personally, I think the place needed some color. It's only going to get more colorful from here as I finish up the remaining imagery.

In any case, sorry for the delay. It's time to get back on track!

It is a bit much, but from a marketing perspective it works. Unfortunately for them, the phrase isn't exactly English friendly.

I completely disagree about the soundtrack by the way, but to each their own. At the same time, it's obviously going to be truncated...

It's funny that they took this long to announce all of this. Someone brought to my attention a short time before I took the main site down (and I posted it) that EBGames and Gamestop have listed all of these items for weeks.

I eventually wound up buying both.

Best thing to do. I go through phases where I play one way more than the other. Being more objective months and months later, I have to say I like them both... but for very different types of games.
274  MEGAMI TENSEI™ Uncensored / Summoners' Club / Re: Devil Seminar on: April 14, 2007, 05:40:53 PM
I think Seminar is just a typo/mistranslation. I've not seen that spelling of it yet, but you see "sammoner" quite often.

If it's anything like the other World Guidance books, it would be a huge amount of art, information on that art, some info on influences and other such things. Obviously completely in Japanese.

They're pretty good books, but like with a lot of Megaten related stuff you'll see a lot of it in other publications as well. As long as you don't have a bunch of Devil Summoner material already, it might be worthwhile. I own the ones for Persona (1, 2: IS and 2: EP) and Megami Tensei and I like them.

I wanted that Book of Demons book that site is out of stock on, but they refuse to answer my e-mails :(
275  MEGAMI TENSEI™ Uncensored / Velvet Room / Re: Persona Portable! Lets do it ourselves! on: April 07, 2007, 04:16:00 PM
Unfortunately, I don't know that anyone that regularly visits here really has the skill necessary to actually make a game. RPGMaker is one thing, but its design makes doing anything in the style of Persona extremely difficult. I suppose you could attempt it, but I doubt it would work out well.

Beyond that, there's always firmware modding your PSP and actually running an ISO of Persona or Persona 2.

This has a fairly easy to understand guide of the cards' meanings. As NightPhaser says, it can be fairly inconsistent depending on who wrote it up or the deck involved... but in the case of Persona 2, that site works well enough.
277  Be Your True Mind / The Turnstile / Re: Have the mods abandoned us? on: April 01, 2007, 06:51:27 PM
Well, beyond all of that, I thought it was worth mentioning that I changed the registration requirements. Bots were constantly getting past the image verification stuff, so I installed a plug-in that requires users to answer ridiculously simple questions. Since then not one bot has registered, although a few real people have... so that's one less thing to worry about.
278  MEGAMI TENSEI™ Uncensored / Velvet Room / Re: Persona Manga on: March 31, 2007, 01:28:42 PM
It's hard to think terribly much about it when you've not shown us anything or described it in any way lol. Good luck with it, either way.

I think it was honestly one of the worst RPG's I've ever played. Other than trying to look pretty at some points, I've got nothing good to say about it.

I don't even know if I can agree with this. I'm usually open to art styles, but I can't even get over how the characters look to this day. It's not so much just their appearance, but coupling that with their animations it's just too much. The game has the worst horse animation I think I've ever seen, on top of that.

Beyond which, at least on my TV (I'm running on a HDTV via component, so maybe it's more obvious) the watercolor style effect the game goes for just makes it look insanely pixelated.

At some point I'm going to give it another shot, but I don't know when that'll be. It's not worth enough to just sell it.

280  MEGAMI TENSEI™ Uncensored / Summoners' Club / Re: Devil Summoner on: March 30, 2007, 09:48:29 AM
The battle system is enjoyable on some level, but it's really just not that deep. The demon aspect as well as weaknesses help veil the fact that your move set is remarkably small, but not entirely. I don't think the camera view helps matters much, either.

I like the game, but I'm not going to kid myself into thinking the battle system compares to, really, any other real time battle system in any RPG of note I can think of.

I felt ill the entire time I played Romancing SaGa. I really cannot figure out what the appeal of it is... and this is from someone who generally likes similar games to it. I've not really liked any of the SaGa games, though.
282  MEGAMI TENSEI™ Uncensored / Tokyo 202X / Re: SMT if... and Kyuuyaku Megami Tensei on SFC translations on: March 30, 2007, 01:12:27 AM
Kyuuyaku Megami Tensei would be nice, particularly since they are (slowly) working on Megami Tensei for the NES. Really, though, there's not many noteworthy ROMs out there that are still worth translating beyond those (and Megami Tensei 2, I suppose)... There are some for 32bit systems, but translations for CD based games are rather rare.

Makes me wonder if there's been any major progress on that Persona 2: Innocent Sin patch.
283  Be Your True Mind / Find Your Voice / Persona 3: Fes Package Offers in Japan on: March 29, 2007, 07:18:20 PM
I was checking out the Konamistyle Japanese page today and headed over to the http://www.konamistyle.jp/customfactory/p3fes/index.html">Persona 3: Fes section. This section now details the available packages you can purchase on its launch date. There are four packages total.

The full version will contain the original Persona 3 and the Fes expansion disc. It is packaged in a newly designed box. It sells for ¥8,190 (about $70 USD).

The basic version will contain only the Fes expansion. It sells for ¥5,040 (about $43 USD).

In addition, there is a Special Edition version of both releases. The Special Edition basic package will sell for ¥18,800 (about $159 USD), while the Special Edition full package will sell for ¥21,000 (about $178 USD).

They contain the same three bonus items. They are as follows:

1.) A special Persona 3 branded version of Audio Technica's ATH-EM700 SV headphones, which are extremely similar to those worn by the protagonist in the game. They come with a Persona 3 branded carrying pouch.

2.) An orange rekishi figure. This little doll was apparently quite popular with fans, so they decided to actually make some. While there are no actual photos yet, it sounds as though these will be stitched fabric.

http://www.digitaldevildb.com/images/merch/persona_3_fes/rikishi.jpg" alt="Persona 3 rikishi" border="1" width="300" height="231" />

3.) A B2 sized poster (50 x 70 cm) featuring the cover art of the full version, done by the game's graphic designer.

I'm hoping to get a Persona 3: Fes section going soon, not to mention some updates to the main Persona 3 section. Stay tuned.
284  Be Your True Mind / Find Your Voice / D3 Conest: One of Two New Copies of .hack //G.U. Vol. 1 on: March 29, 2007, 07:17:19 PM
As some of you may have noticed, this site only runs ads from one group to help cover site-related costs and that's http://www.the-epn.com/">The Enthusiast's Publishers Network. I've been very happy with them because I feel the ads are non-intrusive and apply to the type of person who might bother to come here: namely, RPG fans.

The Enthusiast Publisher Network, on behalf of Namco Bandai, was nice enough to send me two brand new, sealed copies of the latest RPG from the company: http://www.dothack.com/gu/">.hack //G.U.. One was meant to be a review copy for myself, but considering I already bought the game a short while back (which, by the way, I've personally enjoyed thus far), I figured I'd pass them both on to visitors of this site in two separate contests.

The first contest is simple enough. Just register at our http://www.digitaldevildb.com/bbs">forums. On March 15th, a random, active (must have posted since February 15th and have at least 5 non-spam posts total) member will be chosen to receive the game. All I'll need from you is your address.

Sounds good?
285  Be Your True Mind / Find Your Voice / Amazon Marks Down Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner on: March 29, 2007, 07:15:15 PM
Amazon usually winds up recommending things to me that I already bought, but on the plus side I can pass the information out to those less fortunate. Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner for the PS2 http://www.amazon.com/Shin-Megami-Tensei-Devil-Summoner/dp/B000FPGZUE/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-4435045-8425726?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1173146685&sr=8-1">has been marked down from $49.99 to a nice $27.99. It's unknown how long this price will remain (Amazon is known to put things like this back up to full price quickly), so go for it if you haven't already.

Coincidentally, you can also pick up the http://www.amazon.com/Shin-Megami-Tensei-Summoner-Official/dp/0761554475/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/102-4435045-8425726?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1173146685&sr=8-2">official Double Jump guide for $13.59. Or, just http://www.amazon.com/Shin-Megami-Tensei-Summoner-Official/dp/0761554475/ref=pd_bxgy_vg_text_b/102-4435045-8425726?ie=UTF8&qid=1173146685&sr=8-1">buy both at the same time for $41.58.

Good deal.
