Just thought I'd mention you misspelled "millennium" on Tokyo Millennium, heh.

:corkysm17

Thanks... I was in a hurry before heh.

I can't believe they're whining about this. Square does it, and their games aren't even half as good. Though, it's GameSpy, so, yeah. They're as bad as IGN.

Now that they're owned by IGN, there's seemingly even less difference then in the past. I don't pay much attention to specific  reviews at all anymore... Gamespy and IGN in particular just do not share my opinions on RPGs in general. I actually was talking about this on Gaming-Age's Forums awhile back and the guy running IGNPS2 basically said that no one in his section even cares for the genre all that much... how much stock can I put in them then?

I think it's a ridiculous complaint, honestly. The similarities are, as you said, no stronger than the ones between Square titles or the upcoming Shadow Hearts games and on and on. Final Fantasy has become almost sacred on major sites and magazines, probably to avoid bitching from its rabid fans. You rarely see a single complaint launched no matter how the translation is, how interesting the battle system is or how the characters are. If they just like them then whatever, but it's still weird to see complaints launched at games like DDS and SMT that could be likewise launched against games they rave over. What can you do, though?

SMT:N and DDS are honestly rather similar in basic construction... the dungeons and battle system, for example. Personally, I like dungeons and I think the battle system is fun and rewarding considering it's turn-based (which is more than I can say for most RPGs today). Even from the bits I've read of DDS2, it's obvious that a lot of things were fixed or improved or replaced that would benefit the title. You'd think story and characters would count in this case, but I guess not.

Still, three games over the course of a year and half that share some basic mechanics isn't making me upset lol.
528  MEGAMI TENSEI™ Uncensored / Velvet Room / Re: Persona PSP on: August 24, 2005, 11:22:52 AM
Original announcements for Persona PSP were so clear, though. Nothing said "Megaten Game" or anything general. It was always listed as specifically Persona. It seems weird for it to transform into a largely unrelated title.

We've heard nothing about it for so long, however, so I too wondered if that wound up turning into Devil Summoner PSP instead. At the same time, that announcement seemingly came out of nowhere to conincide with the original's 10 Anniversary. Even after that, you think they'd clarify some if it was infact replacing Persona PSP.

So, yeah, obviously none of us know... there's been absolutely no news on it that I've seen anywhere, in any language. Here's hoping we hear about it soon.

Edit: Actually, I have one suggestion I'd like to add: I think the General (Shin) Megami Tensei forum should be renamed -- I just think "El Elohim Eloho Elohim Sebaoth" is kind of odd for a name. I'm thinking something more along the lines of "Makai", "Terminal" or uh, "Tokyo Millennium" something like that. (I'm not too good at this.)

I agree with that, actually, and it's something I was concerned about before I opened this up... I like Tokyo Millennium myself and I'll probably be going with that. Naming them after titles is just dull... there's a subtitle under each one anyway, so if someone got confused I don't know what to say lol.

As for the general section layout, it's kind of up for grabs. I used to work at otakuboards.com as a Super Moderator and I run my own little one called Group Sounds. In general, I find that the less sections there are, the better. I've actually considered a lot of what is being said in here before. As for right now, I went with the general idea of each major series having its own section. This can easily be changed if we find it isn't working out and anything in it could be moved all at once instantaneously.

This forum has basically been up for a few weeks now while I tried to figure things out. I've actually been thinking that I would be best off putting Demi-Kids within "Other" to help even that one out. I'm thinking the idea of a "General" forum would be good because it could include talk of art or music pertaining to the series. I also figured it would be good to stick in any games that don't have their own sections (thus becoming a container for general discussion and stuff about Maken X, Demi-Kids, etc). It frees things up without being redundant, I think.

Persona probably won't warrant much discussion in and of itself right now. It has been years, as Kakusha says, since the last game. However, we still know next to nothing about the PSP version, so it's possible it will pick up... I don't know, obviously.

Anyway, yeah. I'm changing that forum name and removing the separate Demi-Kids forum... particularly since it's doubtful we'll see more of those here any time soon. And altering the Remainders forum into a General forum.

Good? :buh:

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Unfortunately, that one has been delayed until at least after Nintendo's fiscal year that ends in March 2006.

I also should mention Everybody Loves Katamari. I don't know how I forgot that one.
531  MEGAMI TENSEI™ Uncensored / Nirvana / Re: Digital Devil Saga 2? on: August 22, 2005, 09:12:57 AM
I'm really looking forward to it, probably moreso than any other game this year (although it may be tied with Dragon Quest VIII heh).

The first one ends with such a cliffhanger that I really can't even expect to not play the sequel to understand anything. It literally just ends and then the credits pop up. I want to know what the hell actually happens to these people lol. Of course, some things have been kind of spoiled for me over time thanks to working on things, but I still don't know a lot of it.

I took video of the ending that I'm putting up on Digital Devil Database soon. I figure there will be someone who wants to play the sequel that just didn't have time (or doesn't want to or whatever else) to finish the original.

I do wish they'd announce a date beyond "Fall" already, though.

We have custom avatars! What more could we ask for? xd

Well not everyone is capable of making those... I'm sure anyone without the ability would appreciate a few donations. smug
533  Be Your True Mind / The Turnstile / Re: Official Introduction Thread on: August 22, 2005, 09:07:01 AM
I figure if we're not going to have a big introduction forum, we'd probably be best off having a singular introduction thread for everyone to post in when they register (if they wish).

So here we go! :blah:
534  Be Your True Mind / Digital Millennium / Re: Any other games? on: August 22, 2005, 09:02:24 AM
Well, I can't even begin to understand Japanese at this point, so that kind of limits things for me heh.

Digital Devil Saga 2 is obvious. I'm still waiting on a real release date and maybe some pre-order gifts before I pay for it.

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King is coming out in the US this November, finally. Dragon Warrior on the NES was my first RPG and I've always loved the series (although I think VII was pretty crappy). Square-Enix is changing a lot of the things for the localization (voices, modernized menus, modernized sound effects, etc) that I actually think may help its chances here.

Trauma Center: Under the Knife looks really interesting. It kind of reminds me of this weird Frog dissecting game we had in grade school... only fun.

The Nintendo DS is launching its online service this year with Mario Kart, which looks like it might be one of the best games in the series yet (if not the best). Animal Crossing DS is set to follow and I assume it's coming out this year too, but I really have no idea.

That's all I can think of offhand lol.
535  Post Apocalyptic Hellscape / Karma Palace / Avatar and Smilie Submissions on: August 21, 2005, 06:00:09 PM
While this site probably has way too many smilies as it is, I suppose it can't hurt to have more that are well designed. Anything that actually pertains to Megaten in some fashion would be great, since that's what this place is lacking the most.

New avatars would also be appreciated. The desired size is 180x100, but if the avatar is quality it will still be considered. I'd like for there to be a far wider spectrum to choose from than the site currently offers... particularly for games that we have no options for yet.

Please keep in mind fanart rules when submitting avatars or smilies or anything else. Utilizing someone else's fan work without permission is not allowed here or anywhere else, regardless of whether or not you understand the language of the page you got it from.

If you have an image you'd like to submit, feel free to upload it as an attachment with your post. Otherwise a simple link would do nicely.

:thanks:
536  Post Apocalyptic Hellscape / The Underground / Forum Launch on: August 21, 2005, 05:55:57 PM
Today marks the day that Digital Devil BBS is out of its testing phases and open to the general public. Obviously, it will now be linked to on my site, Digital Devil Database. Argilla is also going to link to it on her DDS site, Nirvana. Hopefully both of these links will encourage a decent amount of people to join.

Obviously this forum will be completely dependant on its members. While Argilla and I can advertise this to a degree, what would really help are individual member links back here and general word of mouth. The more people who sign up, the more possible topics and opinions can be discussed. There may be rules, but my only hope is that this forum is fun, relaxing and informative. I think those are the three things that help any forum out.

I want to give a big thanks to Argilla while I'm at it. She's the person who encouraged me to finally install this forum in the first place and she's been an invaluable help in general.

And finally, if all goes according to plan, we should have one to two new skins for this site in the coming weeks. Variety is the spice of life.

 :thanks:
