Pretty much everything being discussed in that thread is pretty well-worn territory as far as Megaten goes.  Translation vs. localization and such.  I honestly don't see translation being much of a problem for an online game personally.  I mean I don't really know anything about how Online IMAGINE works, but if its anything like other MMORPGs the only translation work that needs to be done has little to do with story  and would most likely be focused on mundane things like place, item, and demon names.

My deal with translation is that the moment you try to shift things around and make the translation come off as more natural sounding English, you start to take artistic license with some-one else's work.  To pull this off at all, the translator has to be a pretty good author as well.  Sometimes this can be handled well but I tend to only be convinced by big-budget affairs that have the money to pay for consummate talent.

This really gets to me though.

I should not feel like I have to go do RESEARCH to enjoy a simple form of ENTERTAINMENT.

Then this dude is playing the wrong RPG series (or he shouldn't be playing RPGs in the first place).  Seriously...  Did he even really think about that before typing it?

I can't make stickies in Megaten Hell though since I don't moderate those sections...  I think I might just scrap this idea.

The Turnstile section then maybe would be more appropriate?

That's what I'm saying, I'm not in a rush to pick up a converter because I watch virtually no broadcast television.  Well, PBS but only a handful of shows and only when I somehow manage to be around when they're actually being shown.

I've been putting off getting a converter for no real reason.  All my games are in NTSC format so I'm not in a particular rush.  I watch most of my television on the internet anyway.  razz

I was thinking that the introduction post probably belongs in the Welcome section since it's basically a DDDB Forum introduction and directory.  I'll PM you a preview.  I'll have to update the miscellaneous games a bit later.

Nah, Megaten2 style always has been a mantle, goggles, and binoculars feel. Basically the desert wasteland esthetic.

The Junkyard is like an overcast and dreary wasteland, but the 'real world' is totally a desert wasteland where people can only live inside domes or underground.

So most North Americans will be switching to ATSC digital signals next year and Canadians in 2011.  What does everyone think about this?  Personally I'm going to miss the analog days.

I don't know much about PAL formats.  Aren't you guys switching to something called 576i?

I thought you were correcting me or something.  sweatdrop  I love me some Ninjatai though.

There's also a noticeable similarity between Heat's get-up and the costume your character wears in the Devil Buster mini-game in the "Old Testament" re-release of Megaten 2:

There's more than a few throwbacks and nods to the original Megaten in the DDS games.  It is Digital Devil Saga after all.

I found this: http://www.mobygames.com/game/castlevania-curse-of-darkness/cover-art/gameCoverId,98345/ smug

This is why 99% of graphic artists shouldn't be allowed work in the industry. No one understands fundamentals anymore!

Wish I could remember what BeetleJuice said to that head shrinker about now rolleyes

Yeah, that's just... ugh...  I think that same artist has been with the series for a while - at least since Symphony...  I don't know... 3D CastleVania always seems to fail in some crippling and major way.

Sentai is just like a catchall term for "super fighting force"-series.   wink

What's a PC engine anyway?

Japan has had "how much plastic crap can we attach to this to resell it"-syndrome for forever.

EDIT: It's also called the TurboGrafx-16 in North America.

I dunno, I'd hop aboard but really I don't know if I have anything to add to the discussion really.  sweatdrop

It struck me a while ago that Digital Devil Saga is like a Sentai-version of Megaten.

Then which one forms the head? rainbow

doh Sorry, keep missing posts.

More like GATCHAMAN!

I'm still working on this, just tracking down the last bits of boxart.

The problem I have with ordering it  this way is that it makes Online IMAGINE first on the list.  For the sake of brevity I'd like to list it second to last (past the Nirvana section, before Megaten Hell), mostly because it's going to be the emptiest section in the introduction and also just not the first thing I (or most people I'd argue) think of when I think about Megaten.

Brief outline: A small paragraph about the boards and a brief history of Megaten.

Then a list of the games by series with box art, release dates & available systems, links to their Japanese and North American (if they have one) sites, as well as providing ROM resources for the games unavailable commercially in North America, and of course the headings link to the boards that discuss them.  I'm still dividing them the way you describe, but I feel this order is more appropriate:

Tokyo 202X
Velvet Room
Summoner's Club
Nirvana
Online IMAGINE
Megaten Hell

I think this order generally parallels the popularity of the individual gaiden too.
