I've got a graphic for Persona related news:

Apparently the 'Plus' edition comes with an extra: Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne Maniacs Chronicle Edition.  The regular version comes with a soundtrack CD.  The author neglects to mention what the 'Nocturne Maniacs Chronicle Edition' is exactly...

The rumor on most Japanese blogs is that it's a version of Maniacs where Raidou replaces Dante.

I didn't make the Toro gif.  I swiped it from somebody...  sweatdrop

I'm working on it, slowly but surely.  I'll upload some tomorrow probably.

TOKYO 202X
---------------

This is the board for topics about the Megami Tensei and Shin Megami Tensei games, their direct spin-offs and sequels.  The Megami Tensei games were groundbreaking for their time and provide the basic structure from which all the other games in the franchise are based.  Megami Tensei refers to the original Famicom titles by Namcot, whereas Shin Megami Tensei were reimaginings of the original games released in the 16-bit era.  Megami Tensei translates as "Goddess Reincarnation," although the word 'tensei' has general meanings associated to certain concepts in Buddhism, where some regard 'Metempsychosis' or 'Transmigration' as a more fitting translation. The character 'shin' means "truth," and is ostensibly a pun on the kanji '新' (new) often used in Japan during the height of the Super Famicom-era, much like how "Super" was used in North America to denote new editions in video game lines.  The Megami Tensei series is distinguished for its post-apocalyptic themes and its use of characters and beings from world mythology.   They're also known for having incredibly complicated gameplay which differs from most other games in the genre notably because of the 'contact'-system, wherein your enemies can often be coerced or negotiated with into joining your party.  All the enemies in Megami Tensei games are referred to as 'devils' or akuma (悪魔) and become 'comrades' or nakama (仲魔) once they join your party.  Megami Tensei is also known for its mulitple story paths, often represented by philosophical or moral questions asked of your character as you progress through the game.

Currently a translation does not exist of the original Digital Devil Story games or the Super Famicom remake.
English translation patches of the first two Shin Megami Tensei ROMs can be found on the Aeon Genesis website HERE & HERE.
Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne was localized by Atlus USA, although only the Japanese expanded edition (dubbed "Maniacs" in that country) and without the III suffix.
Shin Megami Tensei NINE was a spinoff game released in Japan only for the Xbox.  A video of gameplay can be found HERE.

I tried to find a list of the enemies names in Japanese on Gamefaqs with no luck. Anyone in here know of one??

I must say I'm not so much of a Persona fan but I understand all the fans waiting for the translation to be done. After all, it's best it happened this way. The people are getting original audio with subtitles. The official Atlus version would be dubbed.
But there is one thing I wanted to ask you yksehtniycul. How difficult is the japanese language? How long would it take to learn the language before you could speak it without embarrassing yourself? And do they still use a lot of Kanji today?  I've heard that most things today are written in Hiragana and Katakana.

My spoken Japanese is rather poor (mostly because I don't practice) but my reading and comprehension skills are a lot better.  It comes mostly from playing games in Japanese.  You already know three other languages which puts you at an advantage already.

Kanji is still widely in use in Japan.  In the olden days of the Famicom and Super Famicom, there often wasn't enough space on the cartridge to include the several thousand kanji character set.  With the CD and DVD generation of games it became less of an issue.  It does seem dauntingly unfamiliar at first but I promise it gets really easy over time, especially if you immerse yourself in it.  It may seem dorky to learn a foreign language sheerly for entertainment, but personally I enjoy the challenge.

Haaaay, CherryTonic!  I believe we've already met.  biggrin

All of the outfits in Nocturne look like costumes, save for possibly Hitoshura.

Which is funny, cuz that's the only one I referred to as a costume.  rainbow

It never made sense to me either.  And then I get called a "wap fanboy" just because I play games in Japanese.  I'm not the one shelling out hundreds for crappy collectible figurines and artbooks and other assorted accoutrement...  rolleyes
222  Be Your True Mind / The Turnstile / Re: Giten Megami Tensei NSFWW (not safe for work or women!!) on: October 02, 2008, 03:55:54 AM
The only reason I used "costume," was to denote that Hitoshura had more than one outfit.  razz

I'm ambivalent as I've already played and beaten Tsumi, but...

I think the best thing is just to accept that it won't be released until Gemini decides he wants to finish it (and get it beta tested of course).

Just be patient.  The English-speaking community has waited almost a decade now, what's a few more months compared to all that time?  hearton

Well they have that sort of thing for classic console games, usually for documenting speed runs (like with Super Metroid), but an entire RPG...?  Plus there really is a random element to battle in RPGs, especially with Megaten.  You never know, an especially successful Mahamudo or a buffed up Megido can floor your party... Well, I don't really know how it'd work with P4 admittedly.

How can something be a "fashion" if no one actually dresses that way outside of 21st century teenage synchronized-dance music videos decked out by a recent NYC fashion institute graduate?

Isamu and Chiaki's outfits are exactly the kind of thing I would see hipsters wearing walking around downtown Portland.  Same with Hitoshura's track suit costume.  DDS is supposed to be futuristic so that doesn't really apply.   Persona 2 I have to admit is a bit out there (esp. with Maya's erm, heartboob suit), but the late 90s were a weird time for fashion anyway.
