1  MEGAMI TENSEI™ Uncensored / IMAGINE Online / Re: Getting Japanese characters to work in VISTA. on: December 06, 2007, 12:37:40 PM
Yeah, I used AppLocale to run it in XP but Vista told me that AppLocale was obsoleted due to features in the OS itself. I followed Vista's instructions for setting it up and it basically affected everything BUT Imagine. I don't think the Microsoft website even let me download AppLocale because I have Vista.

The only weird thing I found graphically wrong with the game in my short time playing it on my laptop is that there are no widescreen settings, so the onscreen buttons are mapped awkwardly, I think I have to click a little to the left of each one, or press the keys corresponding to them, of course.

Tony wrote up a brilliant guide for XP that I used for my desktop computer, however, my new laptop is uhhh... portable, and a lot more powerful in most respects. It uses Microsoft Vista, though, and because of that, I've had problems getting kanji and the like to appear in game instead of crazy symbols. I went through the motions of getting Vista to be able to switch between Japanese and English on my taskbar, which messed up a lot of my programs for a while (error messages would appear in Japanese even when I had it set on English, for example). With this setting on, the characters were still weird symbols in IMAGINE.

So I figure someone has to know how to get this to work.

Hey guys, I've been checking up on this place, but I just never post, haha.

So, I have a new laptop that I'll be taking to college. I have a looooong break from like 11:30am to 3:30pm EST. I'm installing SMT:I on here right now.

What server is everyone in? Hopefully I'll still be using the same screen name I posted at the beginning of this thread: 小銃で休み.

Just wanted to mention that I'm playing the game too. I'm at Lv.4 and I have a Lv.4 Pixie and a Lv.3 Kodama with me. Tony and I played it a little together today, and that was pretty cool. I also have a friend who has taken three Japanese courses in college, she's been a pretty good help so far, but she made it clear that you know much more that her, Oblivious.

My name is 小銃で休み in the game, said friend translated it from Rifles at Recess, but apparently it lost its plurality. Whatev. But yeah, we should get organized and all try to find eachother in the game. :)

5  Be Your True Mind / The Turnstile / Death Note manga/anime. on: November 26, 2006, 03:00:29 PM
I know, I'm not active here at all. I'm a terrible person.

Anyway, I've recently gotten into a manga called Death Note, which some of you have heard of and probably read some of it. The reason I bring it up is because its theme is perfect for Megaten fans.

For those of you who do not know anything about it, it is a manga to which an anime has just started running in Japan. It is about a college student named Light Yagami who acquires a notebook from a Shinigami (death god) named Ryuk. This notebook is called a Death Note, and basically, it lets its owner write down a name of a person (as many as he wants) and a cause of death and it will happen. The main other rule to this is that Light also has to know the victim's face.

Light decides to use his Death Note to rid the world of evildoers and create a utopia. His main opposition is a man known only as L. L befriends Light within the first few chapters, lets Light know that he's under suspicion, but doesn't tell Light his name. So, Light has a constant conflict of trying to find a way to kill L without being suspect.

It's pretty brilliant, and a recommended read to any Megaten fans who haven't read it already.

You'd think people would at least PM me for these things.

The link is gone, I don't have it saved anywhere, at least. The file probably either expired or got reported by now anyway. I don't know if Tony got it or not. The file is huge and took me almost three days to upload, and that was after it failed halfway through the first two times I tried it. So, screw that, I'm not uploading it again.

I hated Phantom Brave with a passion, the difficulty was so uneven, and a tactical RPG with no grid? What a disaster. La Pucelle was awesome though

I agree about the difficulty, but I much liked the gridless battles. It was a good change from other SRPG's which always feel the same.

I didn't like La Pucelle very much because of the actual battling scenes when you attack enemies. It kind of broke up the action too much and seemed out of place.

Disgaea is a rather good game, but I also own La Puccelle Tactics and Phantom Brave, and I consider PB to be much better. I wasn't a fan of PB's story, mind you, but I loved the gameplay, it was the only game of the three that I've actually beaten.

On the other end, I loved Disgaea's characters and story. I miss playing the game, actually. I'm probably going to play it again after typing this, haha. I just hate how it looks on my LCD TV. Ugh.

^ Or you could, ya know, send it to me if it isn't against the rules. If it is, don't. My email adress is Maxtream15@comcast.net

A good file sending program is Yousendit

I sent a link to Tony the other day. I'll let him do what he wants with it. :)

Has it been released in the states yet?

I feel bad in that I have no idea. I haven't found any information on it at all, but I have the video. My friend was able to find it on a torrent, and he gave it to me. I'm sure you can find it to download somewhere. I'd still like to upload it somewhere at some point.

The last movie I watched was Fight Club, which has become one of my favorite movies of all time. I finally bought the damn thing after having been curious about it for years. I loved the book and the movie was exactly how I wanted it to be.

The music I'm currently listening to, well, I've been keeping it fairly random today. The last few bands have been The Number Twelve Looks Like You, The Fall of Troy, Prayer For Cleansing, Pretty Girls Make Graves, The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza, Cristiansen, Kylesa, and Circle Takes the Square. There's some really odd names in that list.

I am also currently playing the game, Shin Megami Tensei Digital Devil Saga 2, I need to beat it sometime, lol. I'm actually nowhere close, I just started it last week. I'm in some towery place after beating a group of three powerful asuras for the second time.
13  MEGAMI TENSEI™ Uncensored / Megaten Hell / Re: Shin Megami Tensei: Tokyo Revelation on: February 12, 2006, 08:07:16 PM
I kind of see what you mean, there. It feels too drawn out to be an episode and too short to be anything similar to a movie. This treats itself like a movie and the events that they fit in happened really fast. I thought they did a good job with introducing the characters. By the end of the feature you have a decent understanding of the characters, their experiences, and for some, a bit of their past as well.

If any of the characters needed more time, it was maybe the team of ninjas. Really, aside from one scene, they could have been done without and it wouldn't have affected the story. I would've liked a bigger explanation on who they were, etc.

It's just a little sad that it seems like I'm the only one that likes it. :-/

Ok, so I'm lurking about again! I typed up a decent review for Tony to put up on the site when he gets the chance. If there's any questions you have, aside from specific plot details, they should be answered by my review.

And yes, this is an anime, but it's 55 minutes long, so it's two normal episode lengths.

Games: Hmmm, my worthwhile systems are either broken or in need of new games... so I've been playing some classics NES games like Journey to Sillius, Gyruss, Gradius, The Guardian Legend, etc.

Music: KILLWHITNEYDEAD, Coheed and Cambria, The Mars Volta, From First to Last, Circa Survive, He is Legend

Movies: Random things I catch on tv... I did recently see Sky Capitan and the World of Tomorrow, I feel horrible now, considering it took me a year or two to finally watch it. I also saw The Skeleton Key recently, I really liked it. I plan on seeing The Exorcism of Emily Rose whenever it comes out.
