16  MEGAMI TENSEI™ Uncensored / Velvet Room / Re: Persona 3 Fes in UK on: September 18, 2007, 07:22:12 PM
Good point. Back on topic then Neao. lol.

UK+ Persona 3 or FES = Good. That simple.
17  MEGAMI TENSEI™ Uncensored / Velvet Room / Re: Persona 3 Fes in UK on: September 18, 2007, 07:04:04 PM
Gods. This is a Megaten fan-site. People  are meant to get together and have fun not impale each other. I know differences in opinion will arise but that's no reason to hate someone or say they suck the man-stick. Once someone goes as low as flaming to me they lose credibility.

I've encountered what can be considered a "anti-establishment-elitism" attitude before. It boils down to calling someone fascist just for being American and because they were raised in a society driven by capitalism and democracy. Quite bigoted if you ask me.

First off not all Americans think the same. Not all of us like what is happening in the Middle East. Not all of us are patriotic to the point we think America is absolutely perfect. Not all of us like getting drunk, spouting about religion, or  have narrow minded views on sexuality and immigration. We are individuals just like people in Europe and Asia are individuals.

The bottom line is in most scenarios piracy IS wrong.(Though exceptions always exist.) It cuts into the profit margin of an honest company putting out an honest quality product.(aka Atlus) Sure it may start out as a small isolated incident where only say 50 people download P3 illegally but that can grow into something bigger resulting in Atlus wanting nothing to do with a particular place just because a few selfish individuals had to shoot up the credibility of the people they represent through digital theft. Thus if piracy goes wrong it DOES NOT just effect pirates it effects the consumers in a particular area as well.

I admit a world in which I could get everything for free is appealing but this is the end result.

1. Everyone or at least a lot of people become pirates and get crap loads of free awesome stuff. Yeah, seems great!

2. The illegal distributors get credit to hand out pirated goods becoming filthy rich or at least pretty well off.

3. The company that made said product gets no money or rather not enough money to keep up production. They close shop and are unable to create future quality products.

4. People whine a company like Atlus is no more. Where is Persona 4 or the next Devil summoner? In the limbo of bankruptcy yet to be finished.

5. The people with the money that Atlus should have got are good at ripping but they ARE NOT good at programming. Thus even with their piles of cash they're not able to help crank out more games.

6. Of course a big company like SE or Disney  is not going to be brought down by pirates. However a lot of companies that put out good entertainment are not nearly as big or well off so yes, they can be effected by piracy. I call that "common sense."

When it is right? Maybe if you plan to buy the original product when you can and are broke now it is acceptable or it is the "only way" you can get certain things in your country. I don't think entertainment should be for just a select few but at the same time to do it just for bragging rights or as a status symbol is juvenile and stupid.

I liked the ending in DDS 2. Yeah it was kind of campy but after the characters went through that much hell I figured that they deserved something a bit better.
(I will not elaborate more then that.)

For its time Revelations Persona was awesome. It was  my first Megaten game so if I never enjoyed it I never would have moved on to other games in the series. However if I went back to playing it today I  admit likely I'd be frustrated with a lot of the game play mechanics and certain snippets of bad dialogue. It had a great story sure, but you had to have patience to get to the climax.

To Lycanthroat: Valkyrie Silmeria is a great game. I have more nostalgic love for the first one BUT Silmeria is worth getting in my opinion.
19  MEGAMI TENSEI™ Uncensored / Velvet Room / Re: P4 already? (seriously?) on: September 14, 2007, 09:11:47 PM
P4 would be one of the few things to make me get a PS3 but I'm not celebrating based on a rumor. Hope it is true that's all I'll say.
20  MEGAMI TENSEI™ Uncensored / Velvet Room / Re: Persona 3 Fes in UK on: September 14, 2007, 08:45:41 PM
Lycanthroat is right. UK gets gyped a lot. Making Europeans pay more is retarded as is "pal versions" working differently. I remember years ago one of my aussie friends thought about getting me FF8 for my birthday and then she found out she could not because it "ran differently" and yes, it was very expensive.

Getting Persona Festival might make up for some of the crappy moments in gaming the UK has likely experienced in the past.

I'm still not fond of outright piracy or rather justifying it but then again I imagine if some gamers know they'll never get their favorite games it might become more  tempting. That in mind however, I know for a fact even "if" Japan sent Europeans more titles certain slimey individuals would find another excuse to justify ripping games . You'll always have a niche group of people that are out for themselves and getting stuff for free no matter how much it penalizes the innocent consumers or hurts a certain company.

There's a difference between "pirating" because someone is broke and normally wouldn't be able to get that special something that improves their life versus "pirating" simply because they can do it and think it is "cool". As with anything in life the integrity of character is measured by motive and the situation.

Yeah and X-box 360 is also an unlikely console because they are not as "rpg friendly" as Sony. If it comes out on any system it will be the PS3 assuming that the system manages to do better in the console wars later on.
22  MEGAMI TENSEI™ Uncensored / Velvet Room / Re: Persona 3 Fes in UK on: September 10, 2007, 11:12:05 PM
I agree P3 is a strong game even without the additional Festival content.(Though face it the bonus stuff would sweeten the deal even more.) If Atlus USA "didn't care" we would not have gotten  P3 at all much less the art book or the music cd yksehtniycul. Considering harsh censorship laws here, the religious climate, and a "mature" label it was risky releasing P3 to us. Is this going to turn into a "Atlus USA sucks!" grudge match? I certainly hope not. I hate debates that turn into bigot-brawls. Especially since on my end though I am "American" I would be happy for gamers in the Untied Kingdom if they got Festival.
23  MEGAMI TENSEI™ Uncensored / Velvet Room / Re: Favourite/best Persona in P3 on: September 10, 2007, 11:02:14 PM
I ended up liking Cybele and Surt. By far not the most powerful Personas but I was clever at using them. I never created the "greater personas" like Messiah and I'm  a bit happy you can beat the game  without knowledge of every single fusion.
24  Be Your True Mind / Digital Millennium / Re: Making your own Rpg? on: September 10, 2007, 05:39:18 PM
Cool Emilio.  Hope  it works out. I've suffered from the same  problem...alot of ideas but not enough time.  I've done "rough sketches" of the characters and have the story but I still need to do the scripting and what not.
25  Be Your True Mind / Digital Millennium / Making your own Rpg? on: September 09, 2007, 11:23:10 PM
Just wondering if anyone has thought of making their own rpg. With programs like RPG Maker available for download sometimes as cheap as 40.00-50.00 dollars it seems like it maybe a neat endeavor. There was even an RPGMaker on the PS2 that used next gen 3d graphics of course what sucks is unlike a pc version you cannot download additional character models, maps, creatures,or props. I used RPG Maker Xp awhile  ago that employed traditional 16-32 bit sprites and after I learned the basics it wasn't so bad. So has anybody attempted to make their own rpg or a megaten  rpg tribute using ruby script?
26  MEGAMI TENSEI™ Uncensored / Velvet Room / Re: Persona 3 Fes in UK on: September 09, 2007, 11:08:44 PM
I'll  wish the best for  you UK-ers. It'd be awesome  if you got Festival. No jealousy issues  at all. Just be sure to tell me how cool the extra content is if you get the whole package!
27  MEGAMI TENSEI™ Uncensored / Velvet Room / Re: Is there a way to get FES! on: September 09, 2007, 01:55:30 PM
It is a sad truth. I liked FF12 a lot but besides for the awesome environments and good game play the characters were very under-developed. I think SE  knows it doesn't even have to give 100% anymore to make the fans scream and line up in droves to buy whatever lack-luster game they put out. SE is strong in visuals but it has gone down-hill with substance.

I'd really like P3 to make Mega Ten more popular to the general audience. However I also face the reality that beating SE is near impossible  due to the fact they play under-handed and cater to whatever popular fads are "big"  with the gaming public be they good or bad. Atlus was always the "rebel" that did it's own thing  and cared about quality a lot more then marketing and localizing. If it finally got awesome marketing and more localizing to go along with its awesome games maybe it could flex a bit more muscle. Making more copies of each game may not hurt either.
28  MEGAMI TENSEI™ Uncensored / Velvet Room / Re: Persona 3 Slow start? A bit worried. on: September 07, 2007, 11:00:22 PM
The music track is not typical for rpgs. Then  again most rpgs now are futuristic or fantasy whereas P3 is modern. The music fit the game like a nice suit. It is the type of music "teenagers" would get into and they still have the more epic tracks thrown in to the mix such as "Battle Hymn of the soul" . Sure FF 12 might have more musical scores overall but that's because SE has more money to throw around then Atlus. It's weird because I went into playing P3 thinking "I hate J-pop , I hate hip-hop, and I hate most techno" yet every track was endearing to me somehow. I found  that to be weird but went with the flow.

As for  the "evokers" they  differentiate the qualities between them and real guns right away. However it is still kinda weird seeing the protagonists put a  "gun like object" against their heads and pull the trigger. As a parent I suppose I would be a  bit worried about that kind of symbolism if  say one of my children had bouts of major depression and delusional whimsy.
29  MEGAMI TENSEI™ Uncensored / Velvet Room / Re: Is there a way to get FES! on: September 07, 2007, 10:40:51 PM
Well I think they'd be flattered we want to pay for FES even after getting the original. However the "original P3" has to do  well before Atlus even considers it. So far from sites I visited the game is picking up momentum but the fan-base is still smaller then those clamoring for another FF game. Sad considering I think P3 beats the crap out of FF 12 and Kingdom hearts 2 without even breaking  a sweat.
30  MEGAMI TENSEI™ Uncensored / Velvet Room / Re: Persona 3 Undubbed on: September 05, 2007, 12:12:56 PM
Sub titles may help "artistic integrity" for certain films. For example with the martial arts epics sub titles are better to me  personally overall. However as Kryuzei said P3 is mainly a game with only a few "full anime cut scenes" here and there. I think perhaps some people believe it is an impossible feat for the dub to get everything right but over the years certain dubbing standards "have" improved.

Whereas one can argue the lack of spoken authentic language can hurt the art the same  can be said of sub titles. They're little black boxes filled with text and instead of  focusing on the animation you are leaning in and concentrating to read what is being said before it switches over to another scene. So in theory you're racing against time, trying to cram reading everything that pops up in fear you'll miss something important yet in doing so you may miss a lot of the visual elements. I did have that trouble when I watched my favorite movies subbed. Some I had to watch twice because the subs went by too fast or my eyes drifted to the action and away from the text. Also it should  be noted Anime and movies have a history of getting bad "sub titles" too.

The best thing to do is having both a dub version and sub titles but because I never worked in a game or animation studio I do not know how difficult it is to include both. Regardless P3 has gotten great reviews overall so rpg lovers must think it has a pretty  high level of expression, originality, and artistic quality. Of the people I know that have P3 very few have complained about the dub. Also it seems like a few of those people with the "outcries of rage" have not even played the game yet themselves. For them specifically I ask how do you know if the dub is abysmally bad if you haven't gone through the game?
