Title: Hello Everyone
Post by: Jose on December 30, 2007, 11:16:21 PM
Hey everyone, my name is Jose. As you are all probrally aware from Tony's Post  (http://www.digitaldevildb.com/bbs/announcement.php?f=15), D3 will be going through a number of changes. As you can see, most of the site has been successfully moved to the new server, and the forum has been imported as well (just fixed the images and avatars). Tony's account has been left intact, and of course he is welcome to pass by whenever he wishes. Tony's main goal for the site won't be changed and we'll continue to be dedicated to all things MegaTen. I am going to work on adding scripts so that the site can be more user-friendly and content can be added much easier. I hope to get to know everyone better and if you have any questions, feel free to ask here.

Pleasure to meet you too and yea, I need to speak spanish to talk to my dad and grandma, but I haven't written it in ages, so I make tons of spelling mistakes when I do write in spanish.

Hopefully I'll disagree with you.  So far, I only disagree with you 70%.

hey Jose, goodluck with the take over.
I'm here to help whenever you need it and I still have stuff I had started for Tony so whenever you're ready we can get to work (unless I'm busy :blah:)

Sorry I haven't been online much last couple of days. I just finished re-formating my PC. Anyway, you might notice a small update. On all of your own posts and on your profile page, you should see a warning bar. Whenever a rule is broken, the bar will go up an appropriate % for the degree of the action. When the bar reaches 100% the staff member will have the option to temporarily ban the offender. Then the case will be examined by the whole staff and we will determine what % they will start at on their return or wether a longer ban term is needed (in extreme/repeat ban cases). The bar can be lowered over time by staying active and making meaningful posts. I feel this is a better system for banning because it can be more forgiving and allows for prior warning before action is taken. However, it also allows for immediate action for extreme cases so things can be kept under control and can help take care of spammers. It should also be much more user-friendly for moderators (Yes, I will be picking some soon :P)

I have also gone ahead and fixed the artwork page for the new server. I also hope to have the new news script (or at least an early version) and a wiki up by Thurs., but possibly sooner.

Well anyway, if you have any questions on the warning system or any of the changes coming soon, feel free to ask.

Wow, very disappointed in this change of ownership.

A general wiki? Or the Imagine wiki everyone is buzzing about?

In any case, those should probably be seperate wiki.

I agree with Heat on this; we're not in a neopets forum or something, (now that's mayhem), and I haven't seen any real trouble here outside of the occasional bot ;>_>

The IMAGINE wiki, I think the rest of the information should be fine on the main site.

I'm not saying the update is absolutely needed for discipline, but I really think some type of system for easily getting rid of spammers and stuff is needed if say for example both me and traci aren't online, and only some moderators are online and some spammer goes crazy posting porn links (whitch I've already seen happen a couple times). I'm also pretty sure they're actual people rather than bots. Trust me, its more of a precaution then anything else.

Its fine man.  This place is actually really placid and calm.  I haven't seen even the slightest sign of trouble.  But, seeing as you're quick to jump the gun, I trust you're also quick to spot oncoming trouble. :)

There is no reason to get spazzy right off the bat.  That tends to make newcomers try to avoid registration, seeing as the clear and simple small user number.

Uh it might look that way, but Megaten forums have a tradition of going down in flames! Once all the usual faces are finished licking their wounds and come here looking for more, you'll be glad a proactive system is in place. And I applaud any system which removes arbitrary arbitration from the formula!

To be honest. I didn't even realize this site existed for a long time! Well I did, but the last time I checked it there was no activity, and it was mostly famous (linked) for having some info / graphics regarding the original DDS anime. If not for word of mouth on a very specific topic, I would never have thought to check for activity!

So maybe the best thing that could be done for dddb is some kind of advertising program. I don't know if it is bad internet etiquette, but what if someone just made some posts in other forums asking netizens to check you out? I think it would bring up your numbers. Might seem less dubious if you did't plug the bbs sectioin specifically :)

There has to be more left of the Megaten community. They can't all be in Gamefaqs and AtlusUSA forums, or hulled up in the MH compound!

I know a couple of people and places that can give the site recognition it deserves.  I was actually planning that from the start once Jose got things back up to full speed. >_>

Okay, not to be rude or to double post...but I think the community, as well as myself, would be most appreciative if we can, more or less know what the hell is going on, and why the site isn't up, and hasn't been up for a good 2 months...

sorry about the waiting but Jose is in the process of rebuilding his pc and I was given limited Administrative powers.
Also Jose still needs to get some of the website's information from Tony (why the News hasn't been on the main page).  Umm... the problem isn't that we don't have content at the moment but moreso getting it up

Then why not get more helping hands to speedy up the process?

2 people working on the site, ain't exactly a dream team

The Megaten community always seems to suffer from people who have the gumption to create a fansite, but lack the committment to see it through day to day.

On the other hand, afaik Jose was just in the position to save the site from certain death, so you shouldn't lean on his case too much if you can help it.

PS: Just nitpicking as long as everyone is in reformation mode. How come there isn't a link to the main site from the BBS? Shouldn't the banner go to the main site? And is the guy in the grey suit up there really doing it for anyone? Couldn't he be airbrushed out of the graphic in the spirit of generic-ness (my sentiments if there is a fan fiction artist somewhere out there weeping atm)

I like gray-suit-guy. :P

I think the banner is fine as-is visually, but it would be nice indeed for it to link back to the main site.

It's undermining; there are plenty of people who are capable of helping, willing, and can commit to it, myself included.  I'm just BAFFLED as to WHY Jose and Traci want to completely burden it all on themselves...and take their time at that.  It's like asking for negative feedback on the current situation...

I know this is kind of late. I told Tony I would be away for some time, which I was, but I've just now returned permanently and wanted to know if there was anything I can help with more on the site beyond moderating?

Beyond moderating, I don't think we can do much without Jose here.
