It's FF12 with 12 new License Boards and some new characters - Larsa and Vossler. Which were in the original game as Guests, but here they'll be proper characters with their own weapons. Gee, I'd really spend another £35 for that.

No news of a release outside of Japan and I doubt there will be.

thank you Lycanthroat for the info.
The game features:

-Improved voice acting

-16:9 Widescreen compatible

-Completely redone job system

-“Double-Speed Mode” which allows you to complete the game faster

-Survival style trial mode

-More control over summoned creatures

I would love to conrol Aspers and the guest characters espacially Larsa so I'm definatly getting the game if it gets localized =)

What?

Am I the only one completely boggled by this?

Munnies, ahhh KHII+ how I wish to own thee. It's everything Kingdom Hearts 2 should have been.
Man I'm not sure if I want to rebeat FFXII again. The first time through took forever to 100%. Plus they haven't really added much of anything.
Minegawa: Look we split the license board into twelve separate boards!
Press: Do we gain any new licenses?
Minegawa: Err... No. But, Guest characters can be controlled!
Press: Does that mean they can be unlocked and kept in the party?
Minegawa: *cough* Also no, but characters now run faster.
Press:*nervous shuffles, and crickets*

Actually, this new license system overhaul will make the game MUCH better. One of the biggest problems with FFXII is that, if you're like me and make every character use certain abilities and assign jobs, you have to wade through and learn unnecessary skills your characters won't learn. It makes creating a personalized party a chore. Having seperate license boards will make this so much more fun and addicting.

I'm a bit disappointed by the two characters though. Does Vossler join you after he's betrays you then? That's a bit.....odd.

"Oh, you sold out the princess, the last remaining member of the Dalmascan Royal family and almost got us killed. Nevermind, come on a quest to quell the Empire with us! "

Stupid.

I love Vossler.

Bah. He reminds of Sydney's friend from Vagrant Story. John something? I can't remember - haven't played that game is so long and I lost my save file. I had the Damascan cross sword and everything :(

I didn't mind Vossler (better than bloody Larsa) but I don't understand how he would join your group. It would make sense if he joined a while into the game for redemption or something. One thing the new features don't fix though - the complete pointlessness of Penelo's existence :v:

Most characters in XII were unneeded. Did Vaan, Penelo, Balthier, or Freya need to be in the plot. Not really. The entire story is mostly about Ashe and her journey. All the others just tag along. I actually enjoyed how the characters weren't the center of the universe. When Cloud and co., or nearly every rpg character, enters a town almost everyone notices. Twelve was different because the plot focused on a global scale.

Vossler was cool if only because of his sword. When you had to cross the Sandsea with him to reach Raithwall's Tomb. I became completely lost at one point in the trip. Slowly my characters dropped one by one, and was left with merely Vossler and *shudder* Penelo.  I finally found my way, but not before being cornered by those respawning Tuskan raiders. Penelo was put to sleep and just before I died, Vossler cleaved them apart and I escaped. Vossler was good in my book from there on out.

Balthier and Freya needed to be in the plot, yes. Since the ship you ride in is THEIRS. Penelo and Vaan add nothing to the story.

It's Ashe's story told through his eyes.

I think the tragedies Ashe suffered would have made for a fantastic narrative. At least it's vastly more interesting than Vaan's pirate ambition. His "I want to be an adventure" motto is so typical of heroes. Ashe's kingdom fell and her husband died, which served as a surprisingly dark intro to a final fantasy. Great storyline anyways, but I think Ashe would have been a better choice as the main character. It would have been the first Final Fantasy with a strong female lead. (FFX2 did have a female cast, but they were pretty silly to me.)

It's a tagline for many shounen stories though. Dragon Ball, One Piece, Naruto, so on and so forth in anime; Skies of Arcadia, Final Fantasy IX, and some others when it comes to games. Many have gotten tired of it and many of these types of characters aren't whiny bitches.

I find the Vaan bashing cliched. That is all. I didn't say they did something fresh. Hence the 'yes and no.'

I'm not bashing Vaan per se. The only problem is that he is birthed from a mold tirelessly reused. Nothing was particularly wrong with him.  In fact he was a great character in his own right, but I do think Ashe would have been a fantastic, and better main character. She wasn't a princess in distress whom needs rescue and her back story is filled with awesome story material. Vaan on the other hand was a very happy, optimistic character without a shade of grief. Ashe seemed more dynamic to me.

Oh and what was this topic about again. :P

I honestly don't mind this sort of thing after years of drama and angsty lead characters. I like when they actually enjoy what they're doing honestly. I loved Skies of Arcadia for it. Obviously that's going to get played out again too (apparently it has for some people already), but I'd sure as hell want to play as Vaan than, say, Haseo from .hack //G.U.

One of my friends keeps pushing me to play G.U., but I can't. Rented it once and that was enough for me.

Also,      HAPPY BIRTHDAY TONY!! WOOOO!
Just noticed on the member birthday notification.

Well I'm glad the game actually got enough positive attention to have an overhaul remake done. So many of my FF biased friends were like "Anything suxxorz next to the glory of FF-7!" . Personally FF 12 is my favorite in the series or at the very least tied with FF 6.

However as much as I admire Vossler I'd doubt I'd drop another  $40.00 for a few new perks.

Btw I'm nighty! Sorry for the lack of introduction but I still haven't found that topic thread.

A proper FF with a lead female? Are you mad?!

I don't understand why SE don't have a FF (an actual one) with a female character. It's not like they'd get criticised for it (one would hope) so why not? It's obvious the story is about Ashe - after all, Vaan wanted to be a pirate and hated the empire, not to restore the throne.

If the story was seen through Vaan's eyes, then it was a pretty poor narrative. I don't ever remember hear Vaan saying (a la Tidus) his thoughts on the journey. All I remember are those bits where Ashe was looking at ruined Nabudis with Vaan skulking up behind her (which were never explained). And what was with those aliens? The ones near the end? What the flaming hell was that all bout?

Funny I actually saw Ashe and Balthier as the leads. It was hard for me to place Van in the role of the "lead hero" though I know that is what the designers intended. Lycan has a point. Everything would have made more sense if Ashe would have been  assigned the lead role. I'm not bashing Van . He's a great character despite the harsh criticism he has gotten but I was still more intrigued with Ashe.

In the FFXIII trailer it shows that girl doing somersaults, but I don't know if she is the main character. Or that black-glad bloke with the wires.

I can see when people say they like Vaan for the "just going along for the ride"ness. I like my lead characters to have a bit more depth to them though - a bit more a link to what's happening around them, however the scenes when Vaan and Penelo kidded around with each other when they got to a new place were quite heartwarming - shame there weren't enough of them.

To be honest, I'm the sort of FF-player that loved Squall (loved his story to bits), so Vaan was never going to click with me.

To me Van was a support character. He was the idealistic young man with big dreams tagging along with the grim and determined older characters that had seen a lot more hardship the he and Penilo did. He wasn't the leader or even the catalyst for change. However I did like him for that innocent hyper exuberent drive for life.

Squall was weird for me. I hated him at first because he was a conceited arrogant elitist snot but then as the game progressed further he grew past his pettiness and became a good person that gave a damn about others. It was an interesting metamorphosis from a negative extreme into a better opposite extreme.

That's exactly what I loved about him. He had a complete character change and the love-story between him and Rinoa touches me everytime I play it. I suppose that's why I don't like Vaan much as well - he doesn't go through much or any change. His "journey" is crudely symbolised by the airship he gains at the end and I don't feel he gains much out of the journey.

Each to their own I guess.

I agree Van  didn't grow much. He went through so much but yet nothing changed him. I found  that a bit unrealistic. I thought the other characters were a hell of a lot more interesting. (including Penelo.) I confess Fran stayed in my party a lot. But that was more for kinky aesthetic value. lol. Not to say Fran didn't have depth. I thought the Viera were a great race even if it never explained why most if not all of them were female. I think it was because they were born from the forest itself.(Very Celtic/Druidic vibe going there.)

I don't know though...

After playing ( and beating ) FFXII the charaters don't seem to have matured....or for a better word "change" much at all...

Vaan Whilst energenic doesn't gain any more depth of that...and it would seem at points the game even makes FUN of this!

Basch: So...Why are you still here?
Vaan: ...I....Umm...Err.....

Tell the truth...It would seem as if my true enjoyment with this cast was watching the responces they all gave to a situation then seeing each one of there backstorys...^_^;;

Also...I had always hoped that you could get at least one other sub-human other then fran...like a bangaa or something....but I guess thats why FFTA is around...So insted of all these different races trying to restore the origonal status qoe, we have alot of humans and a verra for the ride....v_v;

Not to say the game was bad...no....It just comes off feeling by the end of the day FFXI with FFTA's world layered on top of it...Witch I think could have ended up much more in depth then what we have now...>_>;

But theres FFXIII right?...=p

I think for now 12 is as high as I'm playing. I confess ff 12 is almost my favorite in the entire series but that does not mean I cannot admit to its short-comings.

Really this is how it boiled down..

Ashe: The resourceful sharp tongued capable princess that should have been the lead but wasn't. Face it most of the plot revolved around  "her" not Van.

Basch: I actually liked his back story and the torture he  endured just because people thought he was his brother. There was depth to him even if he didn't say much. The tension Van felt around him was another good plot direction. But they resolved that issue way too fast with no effort.

Penelo: I just liked her. So helpful, kind hearted, and pretty. She's like that girl I wish I would have paid attention to in high school but didn't because I was stupid and horny.

Van: If you removed Van I doubt much of the plot  would have suffered. His personality was  great and I liked the "throw back" nostalgic factor of the bright eyed adventurous youth but as Lycan says no hardship EVER changes him or makes him mature. A lovable sap  but still a sap.

Fran: I hate to say this but though Fran has potential to be an awesome character she is simply eye candy for the fellas. Despite her intelligence and battle prowess all she is going to end up being known for is "Rpg slut desperate male gamers want to tap the most." Poor Tifa suffered a similar degrading rep. Still because I'm a guy...I liked having a nice ass to look at. I know I'm awful. This was  the type of girl I did pay attention to in HS. Sadly though they looked hot like Fran they weren't  as helpful or nice as Fran.

Balthier: Balthier is awesome for the same reason Han solo and James Bond are. He's that suave, calm, dashing rogue that gets by most things unscathed. Every guy wants to be Balthier admit it. Having an  air-ship would be cool too.

It's obvious the character roster could have been better and I agree more demi-human heroes  would have fleshed out the party more.

Actually, FFXII is like FFVI in that, there IS no main character. They said this in interviews, if I recall. So while the story is told from Vaan's eyes, it's not really about him, just like FFVI isn't about Terra.

...True...but at least in FFVI Terra was a central point of the story....Unlike Vaan thats just kinda there because he can be...

I agree. I admit it - Vaan, Balthier and Fran were my party members for the whole game. Vaan because I thought I should, Balthier because he's suave and Fran because I liked her weapon stances.

Fran was possibly the most interestingly designed character, but she is a walking otaku fetish. She's a bunny girl (hell, why didn't they make her a neko-girl) about 6ft tall with very tight, black bikini armour and she holds her weapons in her mouth as her victory stance. She's cool, but it's painfully obvious what she actually is.

She also was the most disappointing in terms of development - when Vaan asked her "How old are you?" in Eruyt Village it would've been so cool if she explained more about herself. The fact that she stamped off was a poor narrative choice on SE's part. I could've cried when I watched that scene (she was my favourite character up until that point).

I agree  Lycanthroat. I really wanted Fran to be fleshed out too because I thought she was so enigmatic and intriguing. She had a wise yet tortured aura to her personality. She  reminded me a lot of Rose  from Legend of Dragoon only unlike Rose she wasn't explained as much. Just because a girl is a sexy bombshell doesn't mean it justifies not going into her history and the things that shaped her personality. To me Fran was more  then an otaku fetish and I felt sorta bad she got treated like one.

Basch because he's badass. Balthier because he's badass. Fran because she has a nice ass.
