Persona 3 won't be making it's July 24th release date.  It was revealed on the Atlus forums that the game will see a slight delay in shipment due to issue with the include art book. The full text of the post is below:

Due to a manufacturing error with regard to the Persona 3 Art Book, the title will regretfully narrowly miss its scheduled ship date of July 24th, 2007. This was an unforeseen scenario, and one regretfully out of our control.

Presented with the choice of compromising on the quality of the art book, or shipping the game without said extra, we decided to have the art book redone with a higher quality binding, which will cause a very short delay in the ship date of the title.

While all other materials and packaging related to the game are complete, we were unwilling to sacrifice the art book, and as such will expedite the manufacturing process to the best of our ability in order to release the title as soon as is possible.

We appreciate your understanding and will release a formal announcement when Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 ships.

I would imagine this won't be very major. Perhaps we'll hear something this week or early next. Big thanks to aerozero for the news.

It's okay. We waited for the thing a year, so we can wait another month.

According to Gamestop and Bestbuy, the new shipping date is July 31, hopefully it's true.

This is awful, I really hope it ships this month or else...

Okay, at least you're gonna wait like a month! But I need to wait like 3 months, cause I'm gonna buy it in Octuber 2. And like Himuro say somewere else, if you have waited like a year, why dont you wait one month more?

Yes, I know you're right Emilio, although this is a poor excuse to delay a game just because of print problems on the artbook.

Yeah, I mean, either way we'll get the game. I'd rather the stuff it came with wasn't falling apart in my hands lol.

Also, Stack: I remember you saying something about a video for the game and how you didn't like having to manually advance the text boxes during sequences with voice acting? There's an option for the game to do that automatically.

It's not so much the manual advancing, it just that the few seconds between each new box createss a pause in the dialogue that causes the conversation to sound really unnatural. It just ends up not flowing right to me.

I'd actually rather advance it manually because I read faster than the VA reads their lines, so I skip to the next one before the VA is even done.

Yeah, I skip myself. I'll have to try it with the auto advance on and see how it goes. If the speed is high enough it won't really be any worse than most games that don't wait for you at all.

New Release date : 14th of August, happy getting shafted over a 12 page Artbook.

I start college at the end of August..... ....that means I have to hurry and beat it one week.I hate rushing through games...

.....not much else I can say,I know most of us are hurt by this.

If it weren't for the fact school is starting for us...these gaming companies should really know,that the most free time we ever get is during the summer,where we are away from school;unless you're the type that has so much free time,and goes to summer school.

But this is just a personal rant,don't mind me... ...I highly doubt gaming companies even care of when our free time is mostly available to us.

I wonder if this delay will directly impact the sales... (sorry about my english, I'm just a brazilian guy trying my best).

I think this delay will impact sales. They delayed to a pretty bad time period. Just before the fall gaming gauntlet, and in the stream of next gen games that have a lot of buzz (Blue Dragon, Bioshock). It would have been far better if they released it earlier in the summer, I think.

Yeah, Atlus decided a pretty bad move here, the new next gen games are going to hurt Persona's 3 sales, such as Himuro mentioned, games like, Blue Dragon, BioShock, Metroid Prime 3 and couple of other games.

I was hoping that the sales go nice, so we could see FES in english, but now looks like this won't happen.

Not to mention, P3 hasn't had that much advertising. I guess could we all go the word of mouth route. It worked for Disgaea. We'll have to work really hard though. I've already started, I've told every rpg fan I know to check out P3.

I think the only way Persona 3 is going to get some publicity is if someone from the media notices the Gun pointing to the head summoning technique and makes a big deal about it.

Haha, good point! The controversial ideas behind the story can really get some attention... but at this point I don't think this going to happen...

Btw, do you guys have any information about FES? I mean... is it just a extended version of P3? Or a new complete story in the same school? And you play as the same character? Or another one?

It's an expansion disc. It has new bosses I think, new sidequests. One of the highlights of it is the ability to date Aegis.

Think it has new outfits/costumes added.. ...atleast that's what I remember around the time it came out.I could be wrong.

I honestly don't think it will affect much. To the general public the interest in it probably won't move at all. It's the type of game that requires word of mouth and such more than anything.

The game will barely be advertised, most of the normal stores out there won't even have it in stock (Best Buy?), etc. The main thing that's going to help it is that it's getting largely positive reviews, including ones from places that didn't seem to care for the last few games... including SMT:N.

Most of the people who would have normally bought it are not going to really be phased. You can't really underestimate how many RPG players haven't even moved on to these new systems... The 360 and PS3 currently have two RPGs here (both the same: Enchanted Arms and Oblivion). And, really, how many of these people are going to cancel their pre-orders? I've only heard of one person stating such on Joystiq, but I'm wondering if he's just really annoyed and will buy it anyway lol.

As for Fes, I believe there's actually two components. One about Aigis and the other about some "mysterious boy". I only glanced at RPGFan's new review for it considering it basically spoils the entire first game lol.

Delay really blows, especially since it's for an artbook I will flip through maybe once and never look at again.

I haven't done it because I just always had this shred of hope in the back in my mind that we'd get Fes. I'm doubting it now. When I beat P3 I'll import P3+Fes.

Plus, I don't Japanese and I highly doubt they've got translations for Fes out there.

No one has uploaded a translated script of it either, I suggest Himuro, to cross your fingers and hope for an english release if not, best to import it, because basically U.S, will be missing out another couple of +50 hour of gameplay.
Also, Koei has announced that they will publish Persona 3 in Europe and its slated for 08 and I bet P3: Fes is on it.:king:

I bet they'll just base all they do on Atlus USA's translation kind of like the other Euro releases... lol.

Persona 3 is listed in GAME's official website, GAME is another video store game franchise that sells games across Europe.
They listed Koei as its publisher, I find it strange that Ghostlight didn't pick it up.

Since KOEI did a Partnership with Atlus, we will most likely getting Persona 3 in Europe published by KOEI and hopefully they'll bring out FES.

I've played around with the import, you'll have zero fun without knowing Japanese. So much of this game is based around the atmosphere.

I agree with you there Avalon, P3 Fes is really boring if you don't know japanese plus its much harder than P3 alone.

I'm playing on normal difficulty and I can't beat the 2nd Dungeon Boss...

Oh man. I got accepted into the college I wanted to transfer to today. It's in Florida and I have to be there on the 16th to move in. Assuming I drive, I'm gonna miss the release date. Further still, I may miss it anyways because I want to go a day early to check out the town.

I have already paid in full so this sucks ass, but what are ya gonna do? Tough luck. This series is cursed.

I have two options: give my parents the receipt and have them pick up the game and ship it to me, or cancel my pre order, hope the town has a gamestop (because Gamestop is gay and will only give credit for returns) and get me a copy there. That's assuming the store doesn't get 1-3 copies and they're all pre ordered.

You could order it online with 2-day shipping with the credit and have it arrive at your new place when it comes out. Gamestop had a promotional code for a free 2-day shipping for P3 as part of its Stopwatch sale, unfortunately the game got delayed.

You know, maybe they could even just transfer the pre-order for you. I have to imagine any area with a college probably has a Gamestop/EB somewhere nearby.

Where in Florida? If it's anywhere near miami then I'm sure it'll have GS's up the wazoo. Any major city for that matter (Orlando, Jacksonville, etc).

I like being a valued gamestop customer. I told the gamestop manager my situation and he said he would ship it to me once they got it. Wow, what service. This is better than time they held my Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence: Limited Edition when I was out of town and didn't sell it despite getting only one copy in. I feel special.

I can't believe this - I've just came from a vacation, certain that a package with P3 is waiting for me and what I see... A 3 weeks delay? No, this can't be true... Now I will not only suffer while waiting but also won't be able to play the game for too long because of a new school year.
