Title: Kagatuchi and Magnetite, Whats the difference?
Post by: haseo on October 22, 2006, 03:52:36 PM
I always wandered what is the difference between these two, to refresh your memory:
Magnetite is the food/energy? demons need to live and to grow more powerfull, without magnetite they go bezerk and attack everyone is sight (though I think it only happens to avatar-tuners, since I never seen demons caught it).
Kagatuchi is also energy of demons that they require to live and grow strong (the nightmare system in SMT3 whice absorbs all the kagatuchi obliberates an entire clan and kills they're leader).
Both things are diplayed as a cloud of red energy (though kagatuchi seems to flow) and have a smiliar impact on demons, so what's the difference?

you mean... Magatsuhi? Kagatuchi is the big glowing ball in the center of the world, after all...

Anyway, the main difference is that Magnetite is refered to as a substance, possibly a mineral, contained within living things, where Magatsuhi is a type of energy. Magatsuhi can also be taken from someone/thing without actually killing it (see Isamu getting his Magatsuhi taken by Thor, and some of the Onis in Ikebukuro), where with Magnetite, the flesh must be consumed. Also, Magnetite only has one fuction (to be consumed), where Magatsuhi has two (to be consumed, to summon the Gods of Creation).

Story wise, Magatsuhi is much more important than Magnetite. Magnetite is only mentioned once, mostly as a explaination as to why those with Atma must devour. Magatsuhi Is central to the plot of Nocturne.

That's all I got.

I'm not sure mgatuchi is relly needed to summon a god of creation, it seems more like a cause to creatures evolve since isamu and chiaki were a part of the god.

It's stated specifically that magatsuhi is needed to summon a god of creation (and a Reason). Hikawa is the one to say it, I believe, when he talks to you in the basement of the Assembly of Nihilo. Otherwise, why bother gathering the stuff? Both Chiaki and Isamu undergo physical transformations before summoning Baal Avatar and Noah, so...

Side note: I failed to point out in my previous post that magasuhi is a product of emotion.

"Avatar Tuner" is the Japanese name for "Digital Devil Saga" and "Digital Devil Saga" is the American name for "Avatar Tuner", if that`s what you mean. Because there is no other difference, just the name.

I'm fairly certain Avatar Tuner is the subtitle for DDS regardless of localization, though I've steered clear of those games myself.

Magnetite is basically demon food, presumably left after the demon dissipates from the material realm like ectoplasm or something. I like to think of it as purple cocaine, but presumably it is compacted o crystalized into rocks as well, otherwise it would be a mess to pickup after a demon "dies".

The original novels say all humans have trace amounts of magnetite in their body, and humans who are used as mediums by demons, because their birth astrology aligns with the demons astrology presumably, have much higher concentrations of magnetite in their body. The basis for magnetite is in the original novels demons require magnetic fields as well as computers to be summoned. However somehow Kerberos appears not to -- the only excuse being he is a weaker demon, and if  you want to speculate: just maybe Nakajima being a medium for Izanagi has enough magnetite in his body to summon Kerberos on spot. The "Magneitite" concept is not introduced until the second novel I believe, previously magnetic fields were used exclusively, which have the same effect as magnetite presumably.

is magatsuchi or magasuhi?
and the magnetite termine is from what game or is used in the novel?

:o  so the "die corpse" of a demon is like the Ooze used in the DDS2 in the jail scenario? or the "Rocks" or die monsters are the form of a demon like vomit like the demon from the shin megami tensei nocturne

atte:Chaos Amano or Demi-Heat  (who cares?)
"The Future President From Mexico"

Magnetite is used in Megaten, Shin Megaten, Devil Summoner, Majin Tensei, Imagine, and probably a lot of other games which use the traditional Demon Summoning device.

@haseo: Kagatuchi is also energy of demons that they require to live and grow strong

No,that's Magatsuchi(emotion with a physical form).

(the nightmare system in SMT3 whic absorbs all the Magatuchi obliberates an entire clan and kills they're leader)

fixed.

I'm not sure mgatuchi is relly needed to summon a god of creation

It's stated more then three times in the game that Magatsuchi is needed to summon a Reason guardian.

@Demi-heat: is magatsuchi or magasuhi?

Magatsuchi.

@Claudio: Does Yuko find a Reason to summon Aradia?

No,Yuko calls Aradia from the depths of the Amara Network to give her a Reason.
