We apologize. Thank Google for dropping our Custom Search account because we were using AdSearch with AdSense, when apparently Sergey Brin deemed digitaldevildb.com to be “Evil”, as in “Don’t do evil” (seriously)

“Evil,” says Google CEO Eric Schmidt, “is what Sergey says is evil.”

The reason: “Click Fraud” (while the website was not even online!!) …the real reason, Google owed us 100$ …which we needed to pay for a webhost for the next year or two.

So friends, don’t suckle at the teat of Google. Or at least use an Ad Block add-on etc. to block Google ads (even in Google services such as Gmail) …hit Google where it hurts.

We are presently trying to give YaCy a shot at crawling the site, however we require a YaCy server to do so, and so far the YaCy project has only let us down at every attempt. However YaCy seems like a good deal, and people are using it to good effect! So heck, if you can get it working on a server, please don’t hesitate to add us to your index/let us know where we can find it.

Getting there, fill free to try it…

The YaCy daemon crashed on the crawler/query server. It looks like the site will have to be re-crawled. I may take a day to see about upgrading YaCy before restarting.

The present state of this page is I try to keep the search server online as much as possible. The technology is not 100% sound. You do not always actually get all of the search matches that exist. And sometimes trying more than once helps to improve the results.

I am personally working to help improve YaCy in my free time off and on to alleviate these problems. Things have improved a lot over the last couple years but it’s still nowhere near perfection.

The search server is offline for the time being (so search will not work)

I decided since the server being on all the time was not necessary for any other reason, and because the website is basically in readonly mode for the time being, there wasn’t enough to justify the addition to the electricity bill.

As soon as I have a good reason to keep the server online fulltime again it will also be available again for search.

And hopefully then I can work out some of the kinks that prevented more than 1 or 2 pages of search results.

The major drawback is it’s hard to find the pages that mirror the Megaten Wiki. If you like reading the wiki on this site better, you can start by tacking any subject to the end of http://www.digitaldevildb.com/wiki/.

    Sorry.

  6. yksehtniycul Says:

Oh nvm, the wiki scraping pages seem to not be working anyway. Feel bad about not logging some hours here, but there’s just no love and I don’t have time as is :(

PS: Been playing Nocturne MANIAX Chronicle Edition (first time to play Nocturne) to death lately. 60hrs so far anyway.

Fredric Paul’s article touched off a discussion with some colleagues of mine, who agreed that Google abuses has become careless thanks to its “monopoly” with AdSense by (among other things) callously dropping AdSense participants for alleged click fraud without a reasonable appeals policy. A request for an explanation fell on deaf ears, and my colleague was left with the impression that Google “would have been more likely to work with me,” if it weren’t in such a strong position.
