Well, there was a lot of celebrating going on around here.

I can't believe Prop 8 passed in California though, that's just fucking nuts.  Officiating second class citizenship in pretty much the most liberal State in the Union is mind boggling to me.

First news I've heard (been busy all night) ...that is fucked up. It will probably be legally overturned some how, but it's a fuck waste of money. California isn't as liberal as you think... it's a big place. On the plus side Massachusetts decriminalized marijuana.

Though I've been hearing about prop 8 for months it seems, I'm still not clear on what a proposition really means. Is it just a popular overturning of a court ruling in this case? It can't be a consitutional amendment or anything at a 50% vote of the people, which is the only way to overrule a constitutional ruling ultimately.

From what I can recollect of what I've heard prop 8 winning just means even more siphoning of money from realistic causes into more legal dueling. I think the no people should've protested the idea of a proposition on human rights because of the unfair burden of advertising for either side.

It's a total bullshit waste of money either way. How can separate but equal fly for long, just can't happen by Californian precedent.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_Proposition_8_(2008)

It really is an amendment to the state constitution.

Religious organizations are literally swimming in tax free donations and really are the only other people who even care about this issue in the first place, so I can't say I'm totally surprised.

Oregon already amended its constitution four years ago with the same result, although I think the marriages that were issued during the "window" when it was legal are still valid, unlike in California which no longer recognizes the marriage certificates granted same-sex couples.

Seems like Christians are the real faggots.  smug

Yeah I think the word faggot/faggy is no longer about being gay... though fag might still be up in the air??

I just don't see how 50% could ammend a consitution. But if that's what it says. Just have to make an undo amendment I guess (which is pretty fucking ridiculous)

Someone should come up with a proposition to ban christians from marriage, see how they take it.

I'm kinda serious on one hand btw. If they want let others have it, the only way to be equal is take it away from everyone... which is ultimately the prudent thing to do in the first place. Perhaps this will just quicken that development.

Everyone should totally make christian the new faggot regardless smokin

If they really wanted to "preserve the sanctity of marriage," they would've tried to ban divorce.

Everyone should totally make christian the new faggot regardless smokin
