Most likely just an I, and not FFXI.
I have to disagree as well that the series went downhill. Although 4,5 and 6 were awesome, I enjoyed 7,8,9,10 and 12 more. The reason could be that those were my first RPGs(not 10 and 12, those came later), and I played the earlier ones later. Regardless, even if I was to replay them, which for sure I will in the years to come, I would still like the later Final Fantasies more. The only FF I did not like was 2, which I stopped an hour in. Nothing in it grabbed me and I was just bored shitless. I haven't played 3 yet, so no comment on that.

Otherwise, FF13 looks like what you'd expect from SE. I have a feeling it'll just be decent and nothing extraordinary. That is all my guess on the other version. I don't know which version is which, but I just get a bad feeling about the action one. As, with Dirge of Cerberus, I really can't believe that SE can pull off a good action game. Unless someone knows of an action game that SE made that is really good.

Heh, I was confusing myself a bit too, Kakizaki. I have this sort of vague idea in my head, and I tried to put it into words. Guess I'll just drop it, and say which is better, in my eyes, when I've played them. I have the DDS's coming my way, and from what I've read about it, it'll probably be enjoyable. Add on to that I like Nocturne, and was told that I'd most likely like DDS if I enjoyed Nocturne. I think I'd rent OS, though from my recollection, I don't think I saw OS in blockbuster last time. (Which was a few weeks ago)

The series just needs to...die already. How many do they plan to make anyway? One thousand? >_>;

As many as it takes till the money stops flowing. Although, I'll admit, I still like these games.;p
169  Be Your True Mind / Digital Millennium / Re: Suikoden series-) on: July 16, 2007, 10:48:12 PM
I never really got into this series that much. I played 3 for a bit, but couldn't get that far in it. It lost my attention multiple times, with constant playthroughs, after breaks, my attention span for the game dimenished faster. I tried to like it, because the characters were intriguing, but couldn't. Suikoden 4 was mediocre at best. It didn't keep my attention, but I beat it eventually. From these two examples, I never tried out 1 and 2. I don't really feel the need to either.

Also, what does OS being developed by Vanillaware, a relatively unheard of company, have to do with anything? Just because they've never been heard of by most people doesn't mean they couldn't possibly develop a better game than R&D1. Pedigree, or lack thereof, does not determine a title's quality.

What I was getting at by saying that is, I have no idea if I should expect a game as high quality as SMT: N, which I've played, from this company without playing it. Who knows, I could end up hating it, all the reviews and critics (even though I don't normally listen to them, and this is all hypothetical as I think I'd love OS from it's premise) could be wrong. With a game series such as SMT, which, I've heard and read has many great titles and mess ups, but what series doesn't mess up? How wouldn't I assume, I mean really, that a singular game doesn't rack up to ALL of them in worth(not JUST the recent ones and not JUST the old ones). Of course OS is going to be better than some other games in the series, but a total worth, it won't be. What I was finally trying to get at is, this game got attention. Whereas a series like SMT, with games in the series that both are incredible and bad didn't(Of course, I'd like to discern for myself which are bad and good, but I won't get the chance to play them all). Now I haven't played every SMT, not even close. But I'm assuming, and I could be wrong, but I believe I'm not. As a whole, the SMT series is better than OS.

I'm not saying OS is a bad game. I'd probably love it from what I've heard it did. It sounds intriguing, and I'd like to try it out. But my question is, why did this random game get so much coverage? When so many other great games get overlooked. Luck could be the only answer, they (Vanillaware) pleased the right people, I guess.
Just to clarify, I don't believe that a company that hasn't made a name for itself has no talent. Everyone has to start from somewhere. Who knows, Vanillaware could be the next SE.

Wow. I called about 20 or so gamestops (spanning from 90 miles away as I was curious to see if any had it) and NONE of them had it. I found one shop that had DDS2, that's it. And they all, always said "Yes, (pause for me to take a sigh of relief) we have Devil Summoner." Only for me to correct them, when I said it clearly (and two times) before.

I, on the other hand, enjoyed Rogue Galaxy from start to finish. I had a fun time playing it, even though action RPGs are not favored over turn based for me. I thought the story was decent, with, albeit forgiveable (at least for me), fun to watch but not so deep characters. I thought the game was great, which is really the only thing that matters. Other than RG, I found DC 1 and 2 to be ok and Dragon Quest 8 enjoyable to a minimal degree. I definently will check out future Level 5 titles, though.

And you are basing this off of what? I'm not sure if I would call the last Devil Summoner a quality title.

I said most likely. I didn't say that it is. And, are you saying this for the sake of argument? Or do you truely believe that the SMT series, as a whole, is worse than Odin Sphere, a single game, from a developing company that has otherwise(1 game, which failed to gain popularity, where Odin Sphere has succeded, somewhat) never been heard of?

To be perfectly honest, I'm pretty mixed on the actual game itself. It's pretty and it's reasonably fun, but I'm almost amazed at some of the mainstream attention it's getting over, say, some of the SMT games that are arguably more involving and enjoyable.

I suppose you can't underestimate the power of 2D fandom.

I actually was surprised as well. You don't see many new RPGs that are not a running series or made/published by a very well known company get too much media attention. Yet, Odin Sphere is. I'm sure it won't get a huge boost in sales, but it will some, more than SMT will with future releases. And, most likely, the SMT series are probably higher quality games than Odin Sphere is. Although I will check out Odin Sphere when I can. The team that made Odin Sphere also made one other game, that I found listed. An odd game named GrimGrimoire, I haven't looked into it much, but the name itself is kinda weird as grimoires are books on magic, specifically black magic, which would be grim in the first place.
174  Be Your True Mind / Digital Millennium / Re: So any anime watcher ? on: July 15, 2007, 03:40:52 AM
I watch a decent amount of anime. I'd have to say my favorite anime show and movie has to be Full Metal Alchemist and Princess Mononoke. Those two are just amazing to me. The shows I have seen, and liked are: FMA, Cowboy Bebop, Evangelion, Escaflowne, DBZ, Yu Yu Hakusho, Wolf's Rain, Rurouni Kenshin/ Samurai X, Gundam Wing, Tri-Gun, S-Cry-Ed, many ghibli films, case closed, DB and some anime movies here and there. I probably did miss a few, but I'm pretty sure that's the bulk. Other than randomly watching one of these shows over when I feel like it, I barley watch anime. Sometimes I get into new ones, and have my eye on a couple when I have the cash to purchase them, after I've seen a couple of episodes and decide if it's worth it.

These games are getting expensive. I did luck out and found Digital Devil Saga 2 for 30 new at a gamestop. Now to find 1...:p, I was keeping my eye on a DDS 1 that was going for 20 with 6 or 7 bids on it, but it quickly shot up in price=/.

Heh, I named my character my own name, and his nickname the name which I used in FF11; Neao :)

Hey everyone. I'm very new to the Shin Megami Tensei series, found out about this game about a month ago. I've been playing games for a good part of my life, about 9 years, and am mostly into RPGs,Action, Platformer and Adventure games with the occasional FPS. I just got my hands on Nocturne and am loving it, especially the difficulty as I'm playing on Hard:P. I think my next step would be the DDS games, as I've heard those are pretty good, if I can find them. Sadly these games are hard to come by, and aren't very popular. I came to the forums to find people to share my growing enthusiasm for this game, and hope to have fun getting to know you all.
