Which is the best way to go for a new player? Sword, dagger, hammer, or gun?

I personally like using the hammer, (squish those kodamas, whee XD), but it also depends on what kind of demon you use too; a demon with close ranging skills can be supported from a distance with gun attacks. Also remember that some demons have resistances to certain weapons, so it might be good to carry around at least 2 different kinds of weapons, (also useful incase one breaks). I've never used the swords/daggers though, can't help you out with that, though I think the 3-hits with a sword hit faster than the hammer, (or maybe I just lag a lot in the game).
For beginners choose a weapon without ammo until you can afford the funds to buy the ammo, (but the beginner weapons dont last too long, even early game, anyways.)

And I saw that the online guide is back! I'm already signed up of course, but yay for the possibility of new players X3 I have a couple screenshots HERE if they're needed for the guide's screenshot section.

That looks like the cover for one of the japanese strategy guides; except, without the 3 XD
Anyways, I think it'd be fun to play a dds3; playing as little embryon kids, devouring all the bullies in the schoolyard XD okay, maybe not >_>

Thanks for the help! But any idea how to play it?

Found a site with a small partial guide on how to play, and a card list :3 http://www.megatard.net/smtcard/
169  MEGAMI TENSEI™ Uncensored / Megaten Hell / Demikids Anime (Light & Dark) on: June 18, 2007, 10:17:24 PM
No, wait, don't leave yet, Demikids isn't all that bad! XD While it seems to generally get a bad rap, (from what I've seen), I really enjoyed the demikids games, and was happy to find that an anime subbing group decided to subtitle the second season of demikids; only to stop after the first episode >_> well, I've gotten that first episode uploaded on dailymotion if anyone's interested in watching it, (japanese w/ english subs)
PART 1
PART 2
(Dailymotion is in serious need of smt content >_>) enjoy! :lurk:

I actually just recently saw a couple lots on ebay.com offering a whole box of smt cards of various series; it's about $50US a box, but you get a whole lot of cards XD I'll try to find the links if they're still around, (if anyone gets them, be sure to share some pictures of them with us :p)

*edit* hey, they're still there! XD And if they happen to be gone/the link doesnt work, search up the user "Paper Moon Japan"

"Shin Megami Tensei Chronicle Visual Trading Card Box"

Shin Megami Tensei Trading Card Part 3 Sealed Box

Shin Megami Tensei TCG Devil Summoner Booster Act.1 Box

I think I can help you with those questions:
1) If you mean those links on the download page, then the "4gamer" one is a torrent style downloader for the game; the file that you download will be small and from there you open it and download after you choose where to save it. The "imagine" link leads straight to the file, so it's a direct download.
2) sorta answered that in 1?
3)nope, the 3 links in imagine lead to the same full file in 3 different locations
4) yes, this game is played online only
5) those are points that can only be obtained with real money; they can only be spent in a special shop with exclusive items; I think the items change every month. (this is probably a better alternative to paying every month to play.)

If beta was ending April 4th how did I just login?

The Beta is over, but you can still play. Apparently, I think people only pay money to buy "CP", which are points to buy special/exclusive items, (so it's not a monthly pay-to-play mmorpg. Not now anyways.) If you go to your "Post" section once you've logged, you'll see you have some items that were given to beta testers, (But I have no idea what they do.)
Oh, and I got another email with this link: http://member.megatenonline.com/episode/
Looks like another trailer-type thing. But its neat X3 Featuring some NPCs?
173  MEGAMI TENSEI™ Uncensored / IMAGINE Online / Re: SMT: Imagine on: April 02, 2007, 08:24:36 PM
I got an email today about the ending beta, and its down for maintenance from the 2nd to the 4th x.x then after I think it'll be "normal service." From the sounds of the crappy babelfish translation, a special item will be given to the beta players, (i think it's an item that wont let you lose exp after you die?) I could post the full ugly translated email myself, but if any of you guys signed up for the beta you should have the email, somewhere. Here's a small piece of the email:
"With this, it is contingent pause, but still many functions are expanded to IMAGINE and, are not the meaning, completion with this. Everyone, in the future continuing, we ask support may. The promontory also worldwide setting charge "in the future ヨロシク we ask. " The it does, - the client development leader β preview, limited β, opening β opinion of everyone and indication thank you."
o.O it says something about worldwide settings? well, maybe its not translated right, but we can still hope X3
174  MEGAMI TENSEI™ Uncensored / IMAGINE Online / Re: SMT: Imagine on: March 27, 2007, 09:02:13 PM
you lose experience after you die once you reach level 10...as for "gaining" negative exp, that probably means you've been training in the same area too long - I was running around killing the same respawning cait sith and eventually I stopped getting exp. make sure you check that dialog box window once in a while, it shows the amount of exp you get after a battle, and once you notice it decreasing move on to another area.

I play on channel 8! X3 I think it lags less, or maybe its just me...
And a question for you guys - anyone know whats in the "dungeon"? (that place marked "D" near the bottom of the first area map.) I wanna know whats in there, maybe I can conquer it *is only level 11* okay, maybe not ^^; but I do wanna know where all the nagas are hiding, (I know they're out there, but even when I ran around exploring every place accessable I never found any XD)

I want that Barong and Lakshmi. What store did you find these at?

I found them here: http://www.toyslogic.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=59_243&products_id=741
but I also recently saw them at hobbylink japan www.hlj.com as well. I think they're for pre-order right now since they're being released in may.

Also, I have found another dungeon in Shibuya, south of Shibuya Babel. It is called the Makai Ceru Tower and is literally filled with demons weak to gun. I had a happy, happy rifle that day. Oh, and it seems the silver and bronze plates you need to enter dungeons are unique to each, so you can't interchange plates.

Is that the place full of Harpys, High-Pixies and Sudamas (self-destructing Kodamas)? That's a good place to train...once you walk all the way over there XD (I gotta figure out those teleport thingers.) I also wish i knew what those plate badges were for before I sold them all -_- oh well, I guess I'm off to hunt some Cait Siths.
177  MEGAMI TENSEI™ Uncensored / Megaten Hell / Megaten Models on: February 28, 2007, 10:00:56 PM
I was recently window-shopping some online sites, (yea, its kinda sad that I can't buy anything), and I came across these:

Didn't see this set on the megaten portal, so I thought I'd share my discovery, (and omg theres a Barong! XD)

*edit* I just found out that there's a secret figure too; Pascal! :D (He's your pet dog in the first SMT SNES game).

First of all, I guess I should just warn everyone who may be reading this that the game is one of the old-style, text games.  No graphical capabilities.  Right now, it makes it a whole lot easier to play and program.

>Everyone else:

Since I'm here, I might as well ask everyone: is there a particular creature(s) from the SMT world that you feel must be included in this online game?  You can put your thoughts in this thread.
Taking suggestions for demons? Yay! (this could get to being a long list :P)
I think Barong should be included, (and Rangda too of course), Jack Frost (duh), Qing Long, Gyu-Ki, Naga, Raja Naga, Cerberus, Orthos, Shi-Sa (the little Foo dog), Samael, Mishaguji (giant salamander), Raiju, Orochi, Susano, Terrasque (without the booze XD), CuChulain, Pyro Jack, Oni, Beelzebub, Belial, and Ganesha. Those are all that I can think of right now that should be included XD I don't know if remembering most of those names is cool or scary nolaff
Will this game involve negotiations too? That would be neat, and no images required :3 Good luck with this project! And Giantbadger is a cool username, I think you should make a cameo as a demon too. It'd be better than Dante XD
Eep, I almost forgot, (should've known this'd happen), add Lamia too XD

How about a bunch of Japanese gamers WATCHING you be killed by a kodama?

Nah, having Japanese gamers watch you get killed by a kodama while wearing no equipment (clothing) is pretty bad XD I didnt realize eventually your clothes and equipment "break" after a while, and you need to take them to stores for them to be repaired (but if you have the starter set you're better off buying new clothes). Since there doesn't appear to be a defence stat, your clothes are your defence. I took over 50 damage from a cait sith (cat in a red hat & cape) while being equipless o.O

I get random healing sometimes too. Maybe it effects your alignment o.O ...okay, probably not, lol.
As for reviving, you need to use a ring-shaped item to bring demons back to life. You can buy them in the pharmacy at 3rd base (store with a "+" on the front), and sometimes wild kodamas drop them. To use the item, double-click on it first from you inventory and your character should glow. next, summon your dead demon beside you (if it isnt already) and double click on them to bring them back to life. DO NOT try to drag the item directly onto your demon. You'll just throw that item away *learned that the hard way* XD I could make some screenshots of it if you really need them :3 (sorry for the long post ^^;)

Tsunehito, that error means you don't have the latest version of direct x, (when I had that problem, I updated direct x and the error was gone.) you can go to microsoft here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/Browse.aspx?displaylang=en&categoryid=2 and download the newest direct x file, (it's an updater,) and you shouldn't get that error anymore, (if you do, try restarting your computer.)
There's been some talk about game issues and stuff going on in the gamefaqs boards too if you guys need some more info: http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/gentopic.php?board=921999
