Title: The Original Devil Dictionary
Post by: DevilRy on October 13, 2008, 03:19:17 AM

Louis Breton's original plates for the Dictionnaire Infernal, a French demonary based partly on Pseudomonarchia Daemonum.

This is basically the inspiration for a good chunk of the demons in SMT.  Some of them actually appear in the games almost identically as to how they are represented in this book.

Admittedly the scans aren't all that great but it is over 100 years old.

That's great. I've looked thru an old world archive of this online somewhere before, but I never could find all the pictures, and it was a streaming only sort of deal, so it was really clunky and I gave up

I don't remember so many illustrations though. Was that all the text at the end or an appendix?

Those should definitely be in The Database somewhere. In the Encyclopedia I guess. Maybe some section in the Media Library.

Speaking of which, if people don't offer to help migrate pages, this place is never gonna get off the ground again :frown:

This looks great, thanks for sharing! Those images will look cool in the demonary.

EDIT: And yeah! there are a lot of demons that looks the same.

You're welcome.

Eventually I plan on picking them out of that PDF but I'm looking around for better quality and larger images if I can.

The end is the English translation of the Dictionnaire Infernal.  The numbers correspond to the plates and generally just describe the demon and its purported abilities/affinities.  Some of the plates aren't demons though, just scenes or rituals.

As for migrating pages... I don't really know how to even begin doing that.  :frown:

Good "topic" for the Best of Thread (if we can ever figure that out)

As for migrating pages, I've explained it in many posts I'm sure. But honestly you've done enough around here, and it's time others get involved.

That said, all you gotta do at this point is make a Post from Wordpress with a copy of the page body (html included) from the old website. The rest is hack magic :smokin:

I can handle everything else until I write up a proper tutorial to be displayed on the missing pages.

I just noticed the skull and crossbones on Beelzebub. I gotta admit, the similarities go a bit beyond homage at some point... to the point of being just not creative on SMT's part. I've always thought "The Lord of the Flies" is the moth anyhow.

Yeah, some of them are just out-right copies.  I don't think this loses Kaneko any talent points but taking one off for lack of creativity at least.  :frown:
