Title: Megaten Haven dead?
Post by: DevilRy on September 22, 2008, 04:00:48 PM
Looks like popanime.net is dead now.  Anyone know what's going on over there?

Yeah, the place has been dead since almost a week. But don't worry, it was a little dead, like in here. :geno:

Is the forum still private? Do people really use it?

I don't know.  The whole website is down though...  Last I checked it was just a bunch of posts from that guy with a million animated gifs from King of Fighters and Big Bird's Bondage Angels.  :goodnight:

If it really is dead, we can salvage their wiki if it isn't lost to time :sweatdrop:

If anyone has a contact, try to have them get hold of us here.

That's actually how I found out that the whole site was down, after I followed some link to the Wiki.  It would be a pity if all that info was lost though.

I'm not sure how much info is really in the wiki, but it's irresponsible to let a wiki die, after so many contribute to it.

So if anybody has any of that info backed up?

Maybe we should take over hosting duties?

That depends on whether it's not coming back, and the owner is ethically inclined to do so / has a backup :sweatdrop:

There's always the internet archive that may be able to provide some sort of info from it...

Though I felt their forums were a bit hostile :|

The wiki was a little different from the forums maybe... besides, I'm not sure internet archive would work right for a wiki. A wiki needs the markup to function (and the database of course)

Probably not worth rebuilding the wiki from internet archive stuff.

Yeah, the Haven had a fair share of trolls and the moderators tended to be absent for the most part.  Hopefully the DDDB comes off as a lot more inviting and friendly.  :hearton:

I noticed old Brand posted about the popanime.net situation in that Sumaru City blog you linked to in the other thread:

http://community.livejournal.com/sumarucity/

Says you can temporarily reach the wiki and other stuff at these links:

http://www.sumarucity.com/megami/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page
http://www.sumarucity.com/megami/yabb/YaBB.pl
http://www.sumarucity.com/

So it's not the server that expired, it was the domain name (which is explained in the lj/blog I guess)

Presumably Sumaru City is Brand's operation too??

There's really no point in even posting information in that BBS anymore. It's locked up tight, so not even Google can get in

He's the first boss in Megaten2 also (Minotaurus doesn't count)

It appears that the Megaten Haven is back on track, at least for a while, I've just receive an e-mail from them.

Reading through some of the recent posts there...  :face15:  Yeeeeeesh.

I'm actually glad that they aren't trickling in over here.

Yeah, the place is still strong-armed by trolls.   I got a real kick out of reading an old response to a post I made though - the poster actually asserts how much smarter than me he is!!  :nyd:  It would've been a lot more funny if it wasn't so patently pathetic.

Sad thing is no one really ever posts conversationally in these forums.

This place could probably use some trolls :popcorn2:

Yeah, this place is pretty much you and me and Emilio occasionally.

At least our convos aren't so incredibly lame.  Sometimes I think it's probably unnecessary to have two English Megaten fan communities... but then I read the posts. :twitch:

There are plenty others... they just don't seem to get into conversations enough. Which frankly makes it a little embarrassing to even talk about anything when no one else ever does in here :crying:

PS: Cool avataar... where'd you find that one? Some Abaddon promotion?

I need to get off my ass and start promoting this place.  The traditional method is using a big icon in your signature on other forums linking back to this forum.  It circumvents the internet faux pax of making a post specifically advertising your website, and (even better) ubiquitous.

Avatar is from the cover of Kaneko Works I.   :axeman:

Is there more to that cover?

Yes everyone should be doing their best to support this site/Megaten. Unfortunately the human species isn't exactly activism prone by nature

I think I'd seen all the scans in these artbooks, but somehow missed all the covers (which turned out to be the best pieces bar none :sweatdrop:)

Yeah! It's pretty sad to look at these boards and only see like 3 or 4 active members. We need to do something to catch the attention of more users. It's like no one is interested in talking about the upcoming games either!

We need to do something special, I don't know, something like "what's your strategy" or "fan fics", those kind of thread where you can gather a lot of users and discuss whatever the thread is about.

I'm thinking about signing up for the (gulp) Atlus USA boards.  They switched over to the vBulletin system, I have no idea how recently.  The last time I went to their site they were using some weird propriety system...  Not sure what they allow by way of signatures though.

If you're going to sign in ATLUS forums, can you please advertise my manga, please!? :5innocent2:

They're actually pretty active and I recognize a few familiar faces.  :hearton:

Um, Emilio, you can sign up too, you know...  :Nemo_death:

Yeah! I know! I was just asking for a little favor. Thanks anyway.

Vbulletin is proprietary... that's why the old board system had to be put down (and why the forums disappeared) :smokin:

I doubt AtlusUSA rolled it's own boards, but I suppose anything is possible.

Title: Re: Megaten Haven dead?
Post by: DevilRy on October 01, 2008, 12:29:10 PM
I meant their new system is vBulletin.  Before they were using this truly weird "bulletin board network," which was part of a third party system wherein you had to register for this odd, separate system rather than expressly for the Atlus boards themselves.  I don't even think they were hosting the boards themselves even.

I'd just make an advert post myself. Otherwise you'd have to engage in discussion one way or another :ninja:

I couldn't imagine anyone complaining about a legitimate advertisement unless you're posting on a competitive board. Forums like AtlusUSA/Gamefaqs hardly qualify as competition.

I gotta refuse to post adverts myself due to conflict of interest. I reckon the less people associate this website with my reputation the better :5innocent2:

Not to mention I do enough already, and this is a good opportunity for members to acquire some good karma.

As a mod at Atlus, I could care less about advertising for this board. I see no problem with it.

There is even a person there  I can't stand advertising for her EO board and I have never said a word.
