Title: Google AdSense
Post by: yksehtniycul on September 17, 2008, 10:46:27 PM
I put Jose's ads back on the front page. He'd lamented they weren't in a more prominent spot, so I stuck one set in the top right corner (for some reason I can't coax IE to display these however)

http://www.digitaldevildb.com/

At any rate, whatever version of AdSense Jose is using here, seems pretty dumb to me, as far as implementation goes. It's a pain to work around, and can't handle text scaling gracefully at all. It also self limits it's own size incredibly.

I've yet to add this look to the remainder of the website -- can wait until the layout is finalized.

At any rate, a graphic which reads "sponsors" rather than "menu" is needed. If anyone would like to take on that task you're welcome. This is just a sample of the kind of dilemmas that will continue to challenge the development of the site as long as we don't have Tony's resources and continue to utilize Tony's layouts

You may have to manually refresh the stylesheet page to see the front page correctly immediately:

edited: Errr, actually IE is kicking the ads way out in places they shouldn't be... no clue why

edited: Ahh, one reason was IE doesn't like C++ style comments in it's css files -- dumb :aroused:

If anyone want's to make the "sponsors" graphics for us. There should be enough letters on the Persona page to spell SPONSORS :smug:

Actually all the letters are in PERSONA! (note the drop shadows are opposite one another)

I will give it a try, but maybe tomorrow, I'm too tired by now. :goodnight:

I looked for these fonts in my old Photoshop disc without any luck. I have an old Corel Draw disc with many fonts as well. But if anyone has art software with an extensive collection of fonts, please look thru what you have and let us know if you turn up anything.

Looks good enough for now

Technically the drop shadow pixels need to be on the other side (compare it to the menu graphic)

There should be ways to do that without doing one pixel at a time.

If you wanna send me your raw graphics file (PSD if using photoshop for example) I can maybe correct that myself. I'd like to have the uncomposited graphics myself anyhow

We all gotta build the site if it's gonna go anywhere from here. Actually you'll all have to help build the site, because I'm sure my hands will be kept more than busy just facilitating everything :frown:

Well, I just used the gif image that is on the main page, so I don't have a PSD file, so we can say, I just worked over the same image of "menu". :dazed:

Yeah but you put everything in separate layers right?

I've uploaded the file to the front page, but the lettering needs to be higher as well... it should line up on the exact pixels as the other graphics

Straighten it all out one way or another will ya

It was supposed to be on different layers, but the damn thing doesn't let me add more layers, I don't know it's because is a .gif image  I will line up the image but give me some time, 'cause I already began drawing. :rainbow:

You should convert it to something you can use, then export it to gif when you're done. What software suite do you use for editing?

Do you like this better?

Yes better

The black pixels on the lettering are still on the wrong side clearly. If that is too complicated for you, I can take care of it when I get a chance.

PS: Seems like the websites stalwart sponsor is Dirt Devil. I couldn't imagine someone clicking on these ads, but from what Jose explained to me, they're only profitable if they're clicked on, and if the view/click ratio is too low (or technically too high) then the profit per click actually goes down.

I didn't realize it, sorry! Here, I'll attach the PSD file. :sweatdrop:

Only took about 10 clicks to fix :rainbow:

There's gonna need to be so much more work if this place is gonna keep evolving. It'll need all the help we can get.

I'm a wizard with most of this stuff, but I can only spare so much time. Feel free to ask for help anytime.
