Title: Reprint
Post by: aerozero on April 17, 2008, 12:27:11 AM
In case you guys didn't know, Nocturne is being reprinted once again.

Play Asia is selling these copies for $48 (with shipping)

I ordered one but decided to cancel it and wait to see if Amazon gets a shipment.

Is this a reprint or a BEST version? BEST has been around forever afaik, but is this a second printing of the BEST edition or what?

I hate BEST, and all it stands for, for the record!!!

Amazon won't ship software btw, or are we talking AtlusUSA here? In which case, I didn't realize playasia catered to domestic releases. Are you sure this isn't a Chinese release of some kind?

Yes, Chinese releases are region-free and tend to have japanese english and chinese subtitles. I'm sure this is very non-kosher in international markets, though I couldn't remark as to whether such a release is regarded as bootleg in China or not. I kinda like them myself, you get the best of all worlds, and for cheap. It would probably have the same vocal track as the ja release.

If that is the case, you might look on Ebay for cheaper deals.

I have seen some domestic release style games on play-asia and after looking it up on play-asia it's NTSC-U/C... which confuses me slightly, but the screen shots are in English

U/C is for the US/Canada region market. I don't think Mexico has a legitimate domestic console market, but it's basically NA.

The exact same, only it doesn't have the "Contains Limited Edition Soundtrack" label on the back of the box.

And...it doesn't contain the soundtrack.

That's interesting. Does this happen with games often these days? Outside the letterboxed Sony re-releases?

No, according to Atlus it happens once in a blue moon.

Once in a blue moon?  This is the second time.

Effectively, this is Nocturne's third print.

Truth is..I don't even remember the second print.
I think that's how aero is seeing it too.

So when was the second released?

Or are you including Maniax? Since the japanese has two versions, and we got Maniax instead.

Only thing that comes to mind that is from Atlus and was reprinted a second time, was Disgaea.

That's what Atlus messaged back to that one guy.

And it is once in a blue moon, if Atlus reprinted lots of games it would make no sense for people to sell and buy Nocturne at such high prices.

The second reprint was done a couple months after the first print IIRC, after that the only way to get Nocturne new and sealed was on Ebay or something for a couple of years.

What pisses me off about the traders, is they get pissy if a reprint is released without a horrible marred boxart. It's fine to change the boxart, it just bothers me when games get reprinted with BUDGET boxart so the traders won't freak out about having the original product. I could be wrong, but games never get reprinted in japan, except for the letterboxed BEST edditions.

And the odd thing is, trading of non-vintage titles is heavily discouraged in Japan, or was for a long time at least. Now I think the industry is freaking out over second-hand dealers, so something must've opened up. I think rental is still impossible for Japanese (which would only add to the second-hand panic one would presume)
