Title: Any other games?
Post by: Argilla on August 22, 2005, 05:53:14 AM
Are there any other games you guys are anticipating this year? So far, it lots like a lot of good games with be released this year unlike 2004.^^;

My list:
- Code Age Commanders
- Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga 2
- Devil Summoner: Kuzunoha Raidou
- Xenosaga III (if there's any news about it this year)
- Grandia III (released this month but haven't picked it up yet)
- Shadow Heart: From the New World (see Grandia III)

*sees butterflies fly out her wallet* :butterfly Ah, this calls for a job!

Well, I can't even begin to understand Japanese at this point, so that kind of limits things for me heh.

Digital Devil Saga 2 is obvious. I'm still waiting on a real release date and maybe some pre-order gifts before I pay for it.

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King is coming out in the US this November, finally. Dragon Warrior on the NES was my first RPG and I've always loved the series (although I think VII was pretty crappy). Square-Enix is changing a lot of the things for the localization (voices, modernized menus, modernized sound effects, etc) that I actually think may help its chances here.

Trauma Center: Under the Knife looks really interesting. It kind of reminds me of this weird Frog dissecting game we had in grade school... only fun.

The Nintendo DS is launching its online service this year with Mario Kart, which looks like it might be one of the best games in the series yet (if not the best). Animal Crossing DS is set to follow and I assume it's coming out this year too, but I really have no idea.

That's all I can think of offhand lol.

Well, I'm looking forward to fixing my PS2, then I can worry about the games.

I pre-ordered Soul Calibur III because it well... owns me.

After that, there's Makai Kingdom and Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2.

Next on the list (I'm going by priorities here) are Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and and Kingdom Hearts 2.

After that, I'll try getting a DS, I've dissed it before, but it's looking good now.

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Unfortunately, that one has been delayed until at least after Nintendo's fiscal year that ends in March 2006.

I also should mention Everybody Loves Katamari. I don't know how I forgot that one.

Radiata Stories, Dragon Quest VIII, Grandia III,  Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song.

I think I skipped over the "this year" part.

I'm wondering, is that game just about rolling up random things you find on Earth or is there more to the gameplay and story than that? So far, I heard love-hate things about the first one. D:

For me it's:

We Love Katamari
DDS2 (of course)
Rockman X Collection
Taito Legends Collection

On a side note - Argilla you should definitely try Katamari , it is a great game even if it is a bit simplistic.

I disagree. Playing the game felt like trying to navigate a tank through a thick swamp. :\

Obviously, I'm on the "hate" side.

Let's see for me Wild Arms Alter Code F, DDS2, DQ8, MMX Collection, Devil Summoner 1 PSP, Devil Summoner Kuzunoha Raidou, Xenosaga III info!, and others i can't think of right now XD

Wild Arms Alter Code F
Is that the Wild Arms 1 remake, or the new Wild Arms game? I want to play the remake -- especially since I never could progress any further in Wild Arms 1 due to it freezing when I would try to load a save game.

Yea, it's quirkly style is what attracted me to the game but I wasn't sure if it was worth a play. A lot of people seem to love it and say it's quite addicting but then there are those who say it's nothing but you rolling up random objects. I think I'll be the judge of that though...

Yeah! That's one I wanted to add. The game looks awesome, and supposedly plays awesome, as well.

I'm most waiting for DDS2. After I beat that (which may take a while since college starts up soon) I'll probably be picking up or renting Radiata Stories (assuming it gets at least decent reviews). I haven't decided whether to play Dragon Quest 8 yet, as I didn't like what I've heard or played of the series.

As others have pointed out, I do look forward to some info on XS3, though my anticipation for this title is nearly nothing because of what they did to Takahashi and XS2.

I also want any sort of info on the publisher for Shadow Hearts: From the New World. It's been said that it was picked up by someone, but no one knows who yet.

I've only played the first Dark Cloud, and that did rock. I've yet to pick up DC2 despite how good some people say it is. I am, however, looking forward to Rogue Galaxy quite a lot.

I hated Dark Cloud 2 -- the only thing I liked about it was the fact that items were Stacked in your inventory instead of item-item-item. That, and it had the best voices I've ever heard in a videogame. Pretty much it -- it's overrated, but I guess it's nice to know Level-5 is turning into quite the power house.

You're the Prince of All Cosmos. Your dad, King of All Cosmos, got drunk one day and broke all the stars in the sky in his stupor. Your job is to roll things up so he can send them into the sky and form new stars and constellations. That's the bulk of the story element.

Basically, yeah, you roll around and pick things up. There's strategy to it, though. You need to have a large enough Katamari to pick up bigger things, but being bigger means you'll be locked out of smaller areas. It's give and take. There's also levels where you can to collect as many as you can of a certain item or find something specific.

The first one is cheap. You're not going to lose out on much by trying it out. I think it's an interesting concept and I found it to be a lot of fun, particularly when you get to the later stages. The soundtrack is amazing. Unfortunately, the game is rather short, but for $20 I could have done a lot worse.

Ah, thanks Tony! I'll have to try that one out then if I can find a copy here. I actually haven't seen a used one out in town. D: It's pretty cheap on eBay so I might just get it there.

The Katamari reminds me of of Willy Wonka's 'Everlasting Gobstopper' that was shown in the movie. ^^;

The rolling part made me so dizzy I couldn't pick the game up again after the first try. T^T

I'm awaiting DDS2, DS: Kuzunoha Raidou, and KH2.

:axeman: I thought this was a ninja, haha.

I hope it's bright colors and rolling up stuff don't get me dizzy. D: I hate games that tend to do that but I'll give Katamari a try.

As much as I hate KH...it has Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom. XD; Gahaha~

I've never understood girls' fascination with Bloom. He's a decent actor (nothing amazing, however), but he looks slightly rat-ish in my opinion...

As for Kingdom Hearts 2... meh. They'd have to fix so many fundamental problems I have with the original before I'd be tricked into getting the sequel. I'm a huge Disney fan and not even that could force me to put up with that game and its poor usage of the franchises.

I found the game rather enjoyable when I started thinking of the music, such as the orchestrated introduction when you leave the game on the title screen.  Other than that, I just found it was an RPG that could fufill my RPG thirst...for awhile.  I couldn't stand playing the game again on Expert.

Hmm, a lot of girls seemed to fawn over him because of the LotR series(pretty boy? Er, elf?). D: I realy liked his role in PotC though and Troy(despite he was a wuss).

For KH, I got really tired and dizzy after playing about an hour of it. I have to agree with the camera angles but I heard they fixed that problem for KH2. (Still doesn't give me a reason to play it.) The story just didn't catch me at all.^^; I am really interested in the PotC part even though they look so out of...character.

...Woah. I didn't know Orlando Bloom was Legolas. I liked Legolas, just because he wasn't loud and obnoxious like a lot of the other characters were. Plus, bow and arrows are awesome.

KH's camera got me sick -- I get motion sick extremely easy, so, I threw up around the first or so battle.

Sigma Star (shooter fanboy:nolaff: )

I thought Kingdom Heart was way too overrated: underneath all the shiney Disney characters and celebrity voice-over was a game with unintuitive controls, idiot AI partners that were more help to the enemy than you, and a camera that seemed to actively want you dead. I can only hope the second one is better then the first one.

My wish list:

We Love Katamari
DDS2 (of course)
Dragon Quest VIII
Legend of Zelda: TP

There's quite a bit I'm interested in, but how much of it I will actually buy I have no idea. Thank god for Gamefly, particularly with these damn $60 360 games.

I haven't really kept up when most of them come out, though. Of all the games currently in stores, the main one I want to get is Dead Rising on the 360. I'll probably just be renting it.

I'm also looking forward to Contact on the DS, which I think comes out next month.

Beyond that, there's a hell of a lot, but I'll think about them as they're released lol.

From the commercials I saw, Phantasy Star Universe does look awesome. I would have got the JP release but since it's coming out in ENG, I figured I wait it out. D:

I want the FFXII DS game though...*adds to her list*

Phantasy Star Universe looks nice.  I'll definatly have to try it before I get it, though. It's not an impulse-buy, like Okami was.

As for the rest of this year, I look forward to:

-The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
-Devil Summoner

and I'll probably get around to playing Xenosaga 3 at some point. I'll only ever play it once, so I should probably rent it... god, I need a gamefly account.

Title: Re: Any other games?
Post by: Tony on October 08, 2006, 01:09:23 PM
I'm also interested in PSU, but it's just hard to get too excited when I have to pay a monthly fee. If I got it for anything, I'd get it for 360... Luckily you don't need to pay for Live to be able to play games like PSU or FFXI, but when you factor that in on top of $50 a year for Live Gold, it's kind of painful.

I was planning on getting a Wii, but I have a feeling I'll be holding off on that for at least a few months. Which means I'll either rent Zelda on GC or just have to wait.

Title: Re: Any other games?
Post by: Argilla on October 24, 2006, 09:45:55 AM
I saw a used copy of PSU at the store...pretty cheap since it was about 2,000 yen($20). o_O; I find it odd though because they usually don't drop down to the price until like, a feeew months and wasn't this game just released? *wonders if it was bad or not*

Paradox - You should definitely play Xenosaga III! It's the best out of the three...then again, I never played the second game but STILL! XD;

Currently I'm participating in the Great Wii Hunt. -.- Every day for the last three weeks I've called all of the game distributors in town to no avail. Wal-mart finally pulled through, but they sold the last one literally the minute before I got to the electronics department. >.> If anyone knows of a Wii that just happened to "fall off a truck" then by all means, let me know.

I am looking forward to Jewel Summoner, Samurai Warriors 2: Empires, and Etrian Odyssey. Too bad I still have quite a bit more waiting to do. (Also wanting Bladestorm:THYW, but unless PS3 prices mystically plummet even further, I'm going to be waiting even longer. >.>)

EDIT: If Nocturne has taught me anything, it's that "Pester" is a vastly underrated skill... As of this afternoon I became the proud parent of a Wii. :D Thanks to some fancy driving, an impeccably timed phone call, and of course being "the luckiest of all zodiac signs" (so sayeth my lunch place mat) I was able to snag one of the three Wiis that made it to my town this week. -excited-

I'm picking up Rogue Galaxy today too. I enjoyed the demo. It's funny, but the things a lot of reviews kind of complained about sounded good to me lol.

I'm looking forward to some other upcoming games, too. Crackdown for 360 looks like a blast. I enjoyed the demo of that as well. And then there's that Unemployed Ninja Izuna game for DS that Atlus is putting out... it's a dungeon crawler of sorts.
